When I was a child I found £20 in the street by a car, which was parked outside a house. I went to the house and asked then if they had lost any money and they said they had and took the money. They didn't even give me a £1 back as a thank you. I still wonder if they had really lost it or not, but I guess I did the right thing?

If you see someone drop something it's different, as you can see what has happened and what they are losing and help them out on the spot. When it is something lost/forgotten/abandoned, you never really know if it will ever find it's owner again, or if the person you are passing the responsibility over to is honest to look after it.

Found a small brown envelope obviously an old wage packet in a supermarket years ago, it had money in it but I didn't count it, just went to a girl at customer services, few days later, maybe a week I was back and I enquired off her if anyone had collected it, she point blank said sorry you must be mistaken, you didn't give me anything, I was 100% sure it was her but I couldn't be arsed taking it any further, my conscience was clear by handing it in, only thing I thought strange was why she just didn't say it had been collected, I'd have thought no more about it and walked away

I definitely would, it's not my money, more than likely someone worked hard to earn it.

In fact I have done it in the past, although it was only 20 euro.

However, a friend of mine saw a lady drop a big wad of cash, like 1500 in E50 notes, he picked them up and chased her down.
She didn't smile, didn't say thank you, and counted the notes, then walked off - I think he should have kept the cash
You wont know, until you try!

I would not keep it that amount, that could be what is left of someones wages, they might need it to get by,

Of course! There's enough bad shit around without inviting bad karma

"what goes around, comes around" old saying but true, sometimes it takes a long time, especially the good but eventually it catches up

not true at all. There are plenty of people who do or did good turns and get very little in the way of anything. This karma stuff is only rubbish imo anyway.
