Default Looks like more Euro Currency problems.

The European Central Bank is expected to end emergency lending to Greece's banks.
Greece will announce a bank holiday on Monday to avoid a run on their banks.
Unless there is a major change in Greece’s attitude to negotiations, a Greek exit from the euro now is inevitable.

The effect of a Greek exit from the euro can only be guessed, but it will not be good.

Its not good for the Belfast and the rest of Northern Ireland, I use to visit the North to see escorts but not now and looks I wont be going back, I can see that to buy 200stg will be cost well over €300 very soon as the Greek exit will weaken the euro just so much

The effect this will have on Europe as a whole will be very negative. It will make the creditors re think how to deal with the debts that Ireland has and that maybe more stricter controls are needed. It is for sure that Europe will take a long time to recover. The Euro will be badly effected which will have huge effects here if in fact it survives as a currency. The big problem for us is Sterling and how strong that gets. But for the UK its not good either too strong and nobody will buy. It is very much uncharted waters ahead now but unfortunately it means huge changes to our independence here in Ireland with our financial decisions. The ECB will need to get confidence back in the international markets now and show it is in control. I don't think the Governments attitude here of a minimum effect is really the right thing to say any sane economist will tell you differently. Every country will have to pick up the tab for Greece in Europe as was said this morning we will have to pay our bit.
But also the people in Greece have had enough and you can't get blood from a stone Europe brought Greece in it has a responsibility to help it. But the reality is Europe can't afford it and we will all pay the price for that. As it stands its not over yet they might get the deal.
But also make hay while the sun shines it may be a different story soon.

At least the Greek government are standing up for their people.

If Greece did exit the Euro it would be great because it will show that country's wont stand to be bullied and taxed to breaking point.
England are more then likely going to leave in a few years and when they do we will be up shits creek so if Greece go now hopefully more country's will follow and hopefully if we get a government for the people they will show Germany the 2 fingers iswell and we can concentrate on getting our real Irish Pounds back in circulation.
wasn't that the reason they were voted into government Anti-Austerity, The Greeks are so different to the Irish , they dont like to shafted, the Irish are sheep, Enda kenny must be laughing his head of at how he screwed the Irish people good and proper and they just cum back for more, the cu*t...

Ireland are paying the most of the debt across Europe and Germany would be happy if Greece were to fall in line and do the same.
The point I make is we are not in control we never have been and never will be again ,we are part of a much bigger thing that's we have very little say in. I do agree with what the Greeks have done yes they have stood up to the big boys.
At the end of the day we will do what we are told here in Ireland we will fall in line. Its reality time if all this happens then we will have no choice. We don't even raise enough taxes to cover our yearly costs as a country , we never did , we spend more than we earn. As a country we can't afford not to be in Europe. So we will carry on do what we are told as we always do. And fair play to the Greeks as I said they have the balls to stand up to them.
Ireland talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk. We need Europe to survive or we won't and we will stay in it and pay pay pay. I think we can say goodbye to our very favourable corporation tax level also.

Perhaps unpopular but I believe you pay your debts, Greece has overspent for years and now they are broke. It doesn't matter if its an individual, a company or a country you cannot live beyond your means indefinitely and creditors have a right to be paid.

The Irish situation was slightly different as it was primarily a housing boom, undisciplined banks and poor political leaders who were the cause - but we are also similar to Greece in so far as lots of Irish people ran up huge debt - lost the run of themselves and now are paying the price.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened

In the long term what you say may make sense. However, we have to in the short term at least deal with the world as it is not how we would like it to be.
It is true the United States and some of the countries in Europe have a monetary system that suits them and screws over the poorer countries.
But in the short term, and in the real world, the system has to be dealt with as it is.
The Greeks have not “played the game” with regard to the Euro, and have expected the ECB to forever underwrite the huge debt they were piling up with no realistic negotiations on how they were even going to service their debt, let alone ever pay it back.
If they do exit the Euro, it will not only be a bad situation for all Greek citizens but will have a knock-on effect for all in the Euro-Zone, and even beyond.

Yep that iswhy they got the votes, but their bluff has been called and it is now seen that they cannot deliver.
Lot of brinkmanship going on, so a deal may still be possible even at this late stage.
The Greek brinkmanship of withdrawing from negotiations in order to apply pressure has been a mistake.
The Greeks have pushed it to far, and will have to back off a considerable amount.
