    yip 20 yrs now although we have had mad explosive arguments over the years

    Yep you can but you need to make sure there is no strong feelings left.
    I was with my ex split up got back together and split up again.
    We even went on holidays together after that and are still friends
    I am on speaking terms to all my ex,s and have even spent a night in an other ex,s house in different rooms twice
