But migrants can't get welfare, like I can't get welfare because I was away from the country for so long (and I am irish).

If you mean asylum seekers which I think the article is about then let them work.

these people will be at a disadvantage, they are unfortunately uneducated and then theres the language barrier so what decent job will they be offered ..none..its welfare they will be on and what a nice tidy amount....I think that UK are introducing something where you will have to be resident for 6 months before you get any welfare benefits and what we hand out in JS ect is twice theirs

Yeah let the whole of Africa nd the Middle east in. why not? Ebola and terrorism are badly needed and hey whats a persons day without some Muslim shoving their views up the persons arsehole. So yeah let them all in. 272 isnt enough. Make it 22,720 because thats what it will become. Our health service is more than able to cope. The UK are right in their views on this.

As long as you don't suggest the "Lusitania option" for them on their boats.

Keep them out, what benefit are they going to be to this country only adding more unwanted pressure on the system and a system that's already under pressure or fucked up bigtime.
I never got any handouts ever, worked for everything I got and am self employed but I get fuck all from the state if my business goes bang in the morning, that dedication for you and then we had / have foreigners coming in to this country, collecting full payments then leaving.
Not so long ago this moronic government had the begging bowl out themselves and we are paying for it now and for many decades to come. Get your own nation / people sorted first then we can concentrate on others.
Tis time Ireland copped itself on and not be seen as a soft touch

Asylum seekers get €20 a week wouldn't consider that full payment, not allowed to work and if they get leave to remain can't enter other countries unless they jump through hoops to get pricey visaa.

Also getting their own country sorted if they're found to be gay, persecuted minority etc, might be hard if you'll be shot dead walking/tortured walking down the street by dictator governments who were put in place by western regimes.

Also a lot of asylum seekers have good education, but often their qualifications aren't recognised here. A friend of mine is Nigerian and she initially went through the nigerian education system, but skipped 3 years here because of how far ahead she was in our curriculium.

Of course we should accept these helpless people and should not limit the number to 272. I am appalled at the lack of humanity of some of the posters here. These posters have no problem using the services of escorts from Africa,Asia and Latin America. Most of these ladies are economic migrants and probably do not have the right to work here and have no entitlement to any welfare payments.

Irish migrants have been accepted all over the world for over 100 years. Up to 40 years ago the vast majority of these would have been poorly educated. If they had not been forced to emigrate the Irish welfare system would have to help them. It is now payback time for us.

I'm not just talking about asylum seekers, just foreigners in general, we had Polish, Lithuanians and other nationalities coming into Ireland for what handouts they could get, €188 a week plus children allowance etc, why would they want to work.
They manipulated the system for their own means.
Ireland is a great place for social welfare payments much better than Britain.
I do feel sorry for them migrants but they are not our Problem, We have done more than any other country to help others so maybe its time we help ourselves instead

A lot of those migrants have paid into the system - taxed etc and been here in for years probably longer than they'e lived in their own countries. As non-Irish, you have a lot more difficulty getting welfare even if you've lived here for years - they tend to have to sign on on a weekly basis rather than month by month.

Also try living in Dublin on €188/week where most landlords wouldn't even dream of taking people with rent allowance. I think enough primetime specials of Irish people doing it would tell you it's no life.

I find nationality a weird thing to base solidarity on and how we help people. You were born in a country which persecutes you - then fend for yourself. Just a luck of the draw really.

I doubt we can blame migrants for the economic issues in our country - a lot of companies have to get people from abroad to work certain well paying due to the lack of experience people have here.
