Default The anti escort movement/New Law all that razmatazz

I am seeing threads about the new laws and how alot of posters/clients bitch and moan about the chruch, that ireland is in the dark ages, that the likes of Ruhama, the government etc are all blind, closed minded and haven't a clue.

But at the sametime I see Laura Lee actually challenging the new laws and all she needs is funding from people who care about the cause, she's not asking you to prepare for a court case, no just to get her there and legal fees stuff and all I see is 86 people who have donated, why is that? Those people that are so angry at the government etc should be more angry at those not donating that's my opinion, what is 10 pounds in the grand scheme of things, seriously don't give me this shite that I have to put food on the table.

So I ask, why haven't you donated to such a great cause? Or are you just happy to bitch and moan about the other side's campaign.

Why isn't there an escort union? Why not set one up and have a weekly/monthly fee debited to a fund that goes precisely to challenging laws in courts. There's talk that if it was all legalised then escorts would pay tax, so why is setting up a union such a difficult thing? As an individual and a person, you have a right set down in the constituition to be part of a union.

What good is a union well, as mentioned for a fucking start, you would hope, have one single collective voice, instead of this bickering as to what to do and who should do what, less bitching.

It would give the likes of Laura Lee the support of awhole organisation as opposed to individuals, I know I shouldn't bring her name into it but it's such a good example as to what can be done.

The Government know exactly what the score is and will do this as its their way to say they are doing something and looks good to the electorate. They must be seen to be doing something even though they might not all agree with it. Sad but true.

Since when did the buyer/consumer ever have a union? Unless you are addressing the sex workers here? To which I would say I both pay tax and have donated to Laura's fund, as well as created a banner direct to her fund from my personal website.

It would be very hard to create a union for sex workers, as so many work here on a temporary basis, with the small group that stay here not being enough to keep something going by themselves. Having said that we do have SWAI, which is still in its infancy and would welcome any sex worker to join and help them to help us.

Some times I think it is better to approach on a positive note with things like this, than point the finger and make people feel bad. No harm in reminding people and passing on the link, as I'm sure there are people here who would like to donate.

He is talking about a sex workers union.

The buyer/consumer can have a lobby group however.

    So there.

Then it is contradictory. He is telling the moaners (who you will find are not the sex workers on here) and telling them not to moan and be more pro-active and give money to Laura. I agree that Laura could do with more help financially, however her work is independent of Escort Ireland, so it's not the responsibility of EI to promote or fund, but clients and sex workers in Ireland to do this. We should all be doing what we can.

The consumer having a lobby group would be difficult in the same way a union is hard for sex workers, as people want to stay anonymous and to be part of a collective, especially at a time where the buy/consumer can be prosecuted for being exactly that is again almost impossible, as it's a bit like admitting your guilty before the act.

The whole thing is stifled by the need for anonymity, the repression of stigma and not wanting to admit association with something that already is riddled with guilt and moral pitfalls.

So... talk as much as you like, but turning up for a booking would be a good start

I have to put my hand up and say that I have been one of the lazy ones. Can you still buy the prepaid credit cards from the Spar shops?

However, if we are to be serious about funding some kind of credible lobby group, this can only be done through E-I. E-I simply levy every escort an extra €1 per day. In turn each escort would ask every client for €1 donation for the cause. By my reckoning this will produce about €250k to €300k p.a. enough to pay a professional lobbyist and get some serious attention.

E-I should be organising this off their own bat. Effectively Ruhamma et al are saying that E_I are advertising sex slaves for hire which is frightening potential punters. One would have thought that any sensiblr business would want to do their best to set the record straight in this regard. If this sex slave rubbish was exposed as such there would be more willing punters and more advertising escorts.
