Situps are a decent exercise for strengthening your core (I rather squats and deadlifts myself), but they aren't going to lose bodyfat be it belly fat or elsewhere for you. That you'll do mostly if not entirely via diet - there's a reason most bodybuilders say six-packs are built in the kitchen.
I myself have managed to lose over 20kg of bodyfat primarily through a dietary regime, with the first 15kg of that in about 3 months. My latest experiment is a very low Carbohydrate Ketogenic diet which has lost me the latter 5kg and has almost given me my own six-pack in the process.
Weight-Loss really is like 99% dietary related. It's all very easy to do, you just need the dedication to eat correctly and stick to it.

its the diet that kills me, this week is the worst, basically no food all liquids and absolutely no salt or sugar, have to be very careful because of diabetes, then next couple of weeks will be eat eat eat all small meals 5-6 times a day meat & rice mostly.
a friend is a bodybuilder and he did up a diet plan for me, I thought he was nuts going from eating once a day to SIX, it nearly killed me to eat so much,,,,,,,,,,I lost 30kg in 4 months! early last year just on diet and going to work.
No salt or sugar is tough, they're in everything so all meals have to be home cooked - no sauces or dressings - but it works as your body doesn't go hungry because your eating small and often meaning the body doesn't store fat.
I know it sounds mad to eat more and lose weight but it shows results from first week,,,take pictures of all the ugly parts every week so you can see the improvements and keep yourself motivated
losing weight is tough work but worth it in the end,,,
