I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the Fran treatment. The worst thing about it all is the way he took complete advantage of a vulnerable person. The fetish stuff is just tabloid food. Seems he did his best to get bail before trial as well - no doubt with the intention of absconding.
He has the rest of his life now to rue the fact that water levels were so low in Vartry reservoir that year.

While I have no sympathy for the guy, I don't see that the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt his guilt. Others here have mentioned that he failed to give Gardai alternative to their case. Not his job, the prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt, and while I believe he is guilty, without the evidence of stabbing on the body there must be reasonable doubt. Don't be surprised if he gets off on appeal.

shaky lol you guys really werent listening to the details were you. believe me its lock stock and barrel case closed. as the man said on the news they removed all other possibilities to leave just the one reasonable one left. before gps tracking on mobiles he'd have gotten away with it.

The prosecution did prove beyond reasonable doubt in the jury's eyes, otherwise presumably they would have had to acquit.

He can't appeal on the grounds that the jury were wrong.

What he could appeal on is a point of law, such as the judge made an error in law on a particular ruling which was prejudicial to the defence or if the judges instructions to the jury were somehow prejudicial.

the jury got a life sentence too! - the judge ruled they would be excused from jury service for 30 years. strange one that just give them an infinite supply of jail free cards if ever called.

Absolutly no sympathy for this man, I always say each to there own but this mans fantasys were beyond strange, I just hope the family can have some peace & continue on with there lifes although im sure it will be very hard! I expected to see alot more people post about this......

He has left destruction all round him Elaine, her family his wife his children. I was hoping that he would be classed insane and sent to the central asylum as a life sentence puts him possibly back on the streets in a matter of years. His attempt at that girl in America and sending her an Xmas card shows he is a predator .Given his expressed desire to kill I am sill hopeful he is a ferocious threat to women. I am broad minded but live by one creed "do no harm". This man needs to be dealt with and put into The Central Criminal asylum for ever .

My other hope is that the media will leave her family and his wife and children alone they also now have a life sentence but I am guessing that greed will drive that one to touch.
