    Default trafficked women?

What is this trafficking thing? Are the contract girls who come here on the 50/50 deal considered to be trafficked? I have met hundreds of girls over the years but I am certain that I have never met any girl who did not understand exactly what she was getting into when she came to this country.

Girls tend to open up to me quite easily. I think that I am instantly recognisable as ‘harmless’. I have had many contract girls complain about paying 50% to tour organisers and a couple have complained that they were expected to see too many clients but that is the worst that I have heard.

I am absolutely certain that if I came across a girl who was performing under duress, I would sense it and she would find a way to let her predicament be known to me. The most amazing aspect of the escort scene for me over the last few years has been that all the girls are happy to relax and enjoy themselves. This does not fit with my concept of trafficked girls.

The new law that they are bringing in is ostensibly to protect all these trafficked women. Where are they? Has anyone ever met one?

ps. I am not here very often so I apologise if this topic has been done to death aready

Yeah, it has been done before, but there's no harm in bringing it up every so often.

I too have seen many girls, and have yet to notice anything that even resembles coercion.

I suppose a girl that speaks little English that is brought to work here, given accommodation and is expected to hand over a handling fee could be considered trafficked, but only in so far as they are assisted to cross a border into a foreign country. For the escorts I have visited and for those that I have heard of working here I prefer the term "assisted", but many with an agenda will prefer the word "trafficked".

    Definition of HUMAN TRAFFICKING

: organized criminal activity in which human beings are treated as possessions to be controlled and exploited (as by being forced into prostitution or involuntary labour)
Though I do not have exact figures, nor does anybody as it seems, I would put forward that very few are "trafficked" to the exact definition above. Many surveys, raids and police operations have failed to identify any truly trafficked escorts. But it would still be naïve to think they do not exist.

If I were Minister of Justice in Ireland, with a real concern and intent in helping trafficked escorts, I would do the following:

    1. Legalise prostitution.
    2. Open up concerned citizen advice centres, where clients and escorts may talk to officials/police privately and openly.
    3. Disband Ruhama and use the exorbitant funding to finance their replacement with trained and informed social workers that can offer real help to troubled escorts.

This is the only real way to identify and aid true trafficked escorts.

Whatever about No.1, 2 & 3 should still be considered....

In a recent survey, out of those who participated, less than 1% said that they had been trafficked, which means that the other 99% work of their own accord. However, if you talk to Ruhama, they assume that we are all trafficked, they do not believe that any escort works of her own free will.

we are all prostitutes. we are all trafficked in some way. people dont realize they are under duress of their boss or partner. Freedom, no such thing exists.

Excellent view and excellent quote Meursault. Too bad such concepts are beyond the mental capacity of the average Dail or Stormont member.
    2014 in Northern Ireland:

Number of reported attacks on sex workers 70

Number of sex trafficking cases ZERO

Besides all the talk about trafficked women, there is a lot of talk about gangsters. Over the years I have helped a few of the 50/50 contract girls come back as independents. Initially, I was nervous as they would use the same name and photos that they had while working under contract. I was expecting some kind of backlash from the 'gangsters' but nothing ever seemed to happen, not even a bad fake review. This told me two things. Firstly, the girls had no fear of their former employer and secondly, the former employer did not see the girl setting up as an independent to be a major threat to their income.

As far as I can see, these 'gangsters' have no shortage of girls eager to work for them and no shortage of paying clients. Why then would any gangster be interested in trying to bring in uncooperative trafficked girls with all the attendant risks when there is so much money to be made from willing girls?

this is it. no offence to men and women who marry, all they are doing is prostituting themselves. like Nietzsche said very few people own themselves. very few people command their own life. we think we are free but not really. the shackles are invisible
