Seriously you cant go anywhere these days without the risk of never going home again. Planes are going down more and more.Oh they give your a cushion and a jacket????? I fancy a parachute myself. Whats the cushion for? Are you supposed to throw it at the sea or mountain? Fuck that. Id rather take years but get there. Oh you could take a boat but unless your driving it yourself than your putting in faith in whether the captain is mentally sound. A good pair of Addidas and some food and water and your good to go.

I prefer to walk too, but the problem is not distance but time. Car, train, bus, etc. get time saver.
