Default 17th December: International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers

Wednesday will mark an important day within the sex industry, dedicated to end the violence and stigma sex workers face as a result of the stigma and prejudice of their profession.

Laura Lee has shared this statement from Sex Workers Alliance Ireland (SWAI), that highlights just how little crimes against sex workers are being reported as a consequence of this stigma:

Thank you, Laura, and stay safe everyone.

Timeline of @whorephobia today is dedicated to sex workers who were violently killed. It is horribly long.

yesterday in france a sex worker was forcibly arrested for giving out condoms to other sex workers. this recent push for increased stigmatisation of sex workers should be stopped

There's a candle lit vigil to be held this evening actually, I wonder how many people will turn up, it's all well and good to sit in your comfy chair behind a computer, but you have the chance to publicly support this.

Or is it just all talk on the forums and not actual activism.

I'm going to the one outside Belfast City Hall at 5pm today. It's important that as many as possible show their support.
    2014 in Northern Ireland:

Number of reported attacks on sex workers 70

Number of sex trafficking cases ZERO

We woulde all like to see violence against sex workers ended, and indeed violence against all workers, even those installing water meters
Violence is horrible and achieves nothing for anyone, except (usually) more violence.

Stigma is a very different thing, and I am not sure how that should be handled.
Most sex workers would not tell either their relatives or friends, what they do for a living.
    Maybe thay should.
Probably 50% of men would not stigmatise sex workers,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and the other 50% are probably narrow minded, who want to deny that they ever visited an escort

    I hate hypocrisy.
