Thread: Draft Bill among other items to make it an offence to pay for sexual services

  1. Default Draft Bill among other items to make it an offence to pay for sexual services

This draft bill deals with other worthy things rightly including in relation to a client going to a trafficked person and other awful things.Such provisions are welcome as those doing harm to minors are causing harm to society. Also the rights of those mentally impared to a sexual life will now be vindicated subject to not being manipulated.

I think the idea of a person paying for sexual services is fraught with dangers as any person could make such a claim against the other and straight away be fined. Of course the evidence would be at issue.

Heads 10 & 11 of the Bill include amendments to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 1993 which will create new offences of purchasing sexual services, in the context of prostitution. The first is a general offence of purchasing sexual services and the second is the more serious offence of purchasing a sexual service from a trafficked person. In both cases, the persons selling the sexual service will not be subject to an offence. Unlike the existing offences relating to prostitution such as soliciting, loitering or brothel keeping, this offence will specifically target the demand for prostitution.

If the previous offenses on the side of the escort are no longer offences this will make things safer so long as it does not go further like Sweden in terms of landlords who didn't know escorts were renting which would directly affect the escort. It could be argued that as it is, in might make things safer and strengthen the hand of the escort with problem clients....I don't know....

The press release is bullshit, it was already an offence to procure sexual services from a sex worker in public places.

The existing offences will still remain in place. Unfortunately all the evidence from Sweden says that sex workers are more focused on keeping the clients than themselves, so really it doesn't matter.
