Thread: Ruhama report

    Default Ruhama report

Although I don't agree with their views on most matters relating to the sex industry I think we need to pay attention to what their report finds in relation to trafficking and organised crime. I must admit I have never paid much attention to this when making an appointment. I know there is no way to guarantee that any lady has not been trafficked however from now on I will only make bookings with ladies who have a message board id. I have no doubt that all these ladies are in the business by choice.

Where do their figures and statistics come from?
They get money from the government so it is in their interest to exaggerate.
    Their statistics are not impartial.

We do need to pay attention to trafficking and organized crime, but Ruhama has too much baggage and self-interest to be the organization to do it.

Have to agree with that sentiment. I am always wary of escorts who don't have an ID and that mode of contact.

I totally agree .ladies with a message board I'd is the way to go
Ladies should be encouraged to set up a message board I'd .
It would be in their own interest and maybe website could help towards that end .

I know of a few ppl who have contacted Ruhama for help with regards to leaving Sex Work. Neither of them got any help. One was promised support with regards to finding a new job, but then they were told they couldn't see them again for nearly a month! Do they have no idea how long a month is when you want out?

Needless to say that person found help else where.

They like to talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk and I wonder how many of those that contacted them on the phone, just felt frustrated and never took it any further, as it would seem that only a third of those calls translated into physical help.

I also notice in one of their pictures, they have a woman at a black board brain storming, with what would appear to be Sex Workers watching on. Why are they standing up? Can they not afford seats, or are they not worthy enough to be allowed to sit? I've never seen anything like it before.

Another point that I would question with them is the fact that when you make an appointment to see them, you are expected to go to their office, which is in a fairly public place. Would it not be better for them to offer to go to them or meet on neutral ground? I would hazard a guess why they help so few Irish Sex Workers would be that they don't appreciate, or care enough to allow for discretion.

There figures do not translate to actual trafficked. They may help sex workers in distress or at turning points in their lives, but the PSNI have the figures for potential and actual trafficked and they do not tally up with what Ruhama say.

I would say to use your common sense. Communication is key. You need to talk directly with the person you are booking. That phone call is vital for both parties. Make sure the person you are talking to on the phone is the person you are meeting.

There are advantages to this report in that crime and trafficking in the industry is highlighted and if it makes both escorts and clients more aware it is a good thing and brings it out in open .
Self regulation is way to go with both clients ladies and website playing their part.
The report is good for that reason (apart from their statistics) but they should not be trying to shove their ideas down peoples throats

On what evidence do you base the statement that their statistics are not impartial? Of course they have a different agenda than us punters but that does not invalidate the work they do if it was not for them who would help the victims of trafficking. Don't shoot the messenger read the report

Does anyone really believe that a message board ID is a way of telling whether a girl is trafficked or not. An organization with the wherewithal to rent apartments, provide phone etc will have absolutely no problem setting up ID's.
I don't know of any way of knowing if a girl is trafficked. If you feel the least bit suspicious walk away and report your suspicions.

If somebody can give me a way of knowing I would be delighted to hear it.
