But they do get funding from the government, they get around €250,000 a year.

I am sure that Ruhama do excellent work for women who wish to exit the sex industry, but when we hear all this 'evidence' that it's mainly Eastern European victims that are being trafficked over to Ireland for sex work and the report shows that, actually, it's mainly Nigerians (pages 18 and 19), it does somewhat confuse the message.

I don't know of any way of knowing if a girl is trafficked. If you feel the least bit suspicious walk away and report your suspicions.

If somebody can give me a way of knowing I would be delighted to hear it.
No, there isn't a way. It could be ANYONE behind a keyboard.

So what if they get funding from state agencies when have they said it's mainly Eastern European victims that are trafficked to Ireland.

I presume E-I get their most of their income from escorts that does not invalidate the service it provides but it probably does effect their message and viewpoint. Every organisation will publish information that reflects good on themselves and are selective in what is published that does not mean the information is incorrect.

I'll review the report later, just to try to maintain a semblance of impartiality, but I approach everything from Ruhama with a great deal of scepticism.

If some of their past "findings" and reports were to be believed-- or in any way realistic-- then we would have to believe that there are women locked in basements, tied to beds and chained to radiators and being forced to have sex with a dozen men a day in practically every town in Ireland with a population over 10,000 people. I don't need to tell anyone that such a thing is absurd, any reasonable person should be able to come to that conclusion themselves.

And just as a reminder, it has been suggested here before that at least some of the women who claim to have been trafficked have been coached into making the claims, or have falsely used such a claim to avoid deportation, as the government has been shown to grant residency status to those who claim to have been trafficked. I'm not saying that all such claims are FALSE, only that the benefit of the doubt, no matter how far-fetched the claim might be, is typically granted to the claimant, even if the claims remain totally unsubstantiated upon investigation.

Could you let us know which past findings and reports you are referring to. Or is this just another general statement without having actually read their reports.

Unfortunately some posters are part of the "i have my mind made up don't confuse me with the facts" brigade

I'm not saying that it's a problem that Ruhama get government funding (as a non-government organisation). I was confirming that they do get their funding from the government. I was also highlighting that there are some conflicts between common misconceptions and their figures, which often focus on 'suspected' victims rather than actual victims.
