Default Ebola in Europe / US.

"Madrid govt to put down Ebola patient's pet dog , as scientific knowledge indicates there is a risk the dog could transmit the virus to humans. "

"Ebola airborne. Easily transmitted atleast within 3 feet. "

    "Virus survives on skin."

Spit , snot , phlegm , saliva , sweat , tears even , all infective (in addition of course to blood , semen , vaginal secretions ,

    precome , vomitus , urine , feces , etc. )

: Sneeze , cough droplets carry the virus. These droplets can land on you , or on an object that you touch and then

you touch your eyes / mouth.

CDC mandated protective gear not sufficient to prevent transmission of virus.

That gear consists of face masks , goggles / glasses , several layer gloves , gowns etc.

Spanish nurse apparently was in full compliance with requirements , had been in proximity of infected material on

two occasions only , yet got infected.

Now several in quarantine , several dozen under observation.

    What next ?

    Anyone concerned ?

    And for further contemplation

The current case in Dallas :

Bloke flew from overseas , seemingly healthy.

What if he'd been a 'punter' , visiting a lady to ease his headache and light flu symptoms ?

    This case is in Dallas.

How'bout next one in Dub , or London , etc. ?

Some time ago I had put up a thread "Sniffles". It was a thread to educate clients and to dissuade them from visiting us

when they're feeling under the weather with a cold or flu.

But tell me this : how many of you still go to work and continue on with your lives when you just have a headache and

maybe a slight bellyache -- perhaps from a lively night the day before ??

    Food for thought ?

Imo awareness and being well informed goes a long way towards prevention.

When I'm back from Hols , I'm considering a mandatory temperature check before allowing entry to my abode

Would it not be easier just to check for vomiting and bloody diarrhea?

Thank you for your contribution . I'm glad you can see the humor in what I've been talking about. ' '

In the current outbreak bloody diarrhoea and/or vomitus is not characteristic .

    Many a patients in this current outbreak have died without experiencing either of those symptoms ;

and even if they do get those symptoms , it is well late in the disease.

They would be infectious long before the above symptoms develop.

Actually , now that you mention it , that was one of the early stumbling blocks : initial public education efforts emphasised

bloody diarrhoea and vomiting as signs to look out for in the community , if someone got sick.

Guess what ? Many do not have that.

This current outbreak is caused by a strain closely related to ebola Zaire , but it differs that it kills without necessarily causing

hemorrhaging . If you're waiting for a patient to exhibit hemorrhagic symptoms in order to diagnose them , I'm afraid

-- in this current epidemic atleast -- you'd be missing the proverbial boat.

It's scary the way the full protective clothing seemingly wasn't protective enough. It would be one one thing if the poor nurse was careless but apparently she wasn't.
If at first you don't succeed..... don't take up skydiving
