This was after ten years of the Swedish model which started in 1999 - up 58%

Clients are not potential rapists. I do predict that there may be a rise in fights, suicide, mental break downs, anxiety and depression, but not rape!

"in 2007,less than 13 percent of the 3,535 rape crimes reported resulted in a decision to start legal proceedings". What the hell is going on in Sweden??

Thanks Pia. That makes for some interesting and also worrying reading. 58% is certainly not a negligible percentage and can hardly be ignored, Islamophobes and moralists notwithstanding. I'm still not sure what this says about us all.

Must try some of that Baileys cheesecake, if it can boost my Google skills I'll try anything

    I've always wondered...

If u visit an escort and don't pay - is it rape or shoplifting?

If the sex was consented due to payment, then it is rape due to deception.

Oh this is scary information. They were wanting to bring this law into scotland at one point as well x

This has happened to me before because I forgot to get the money first and I felt absolutely violated afterwards knowing that I had sex with a complete stranger who was a nightmare and then he refused to pay me. I was so angry at myself for forgetting at the start. I think I even cried.

Fact is, I work as an eacort. If I want to give free sex (which I don't) then it would be someone I choose in my private life not a stranger who was rough and pushed all my boundaries then refused to pay. Vile human being he was.

I can't help thinking there is more to it than the Swedish Model that will have served to increase rape in Sweden. For one the men are so strongly oppressed and ridiculed simply for being men. It's got so bad that people are mocking them in comedy sketches and did anyone actually watch the Eurovision contest? It was shocking.

I would say it had more to do with a total change in power from men to women and more likely to do with some men trying to regain that power, at a very base level. Sadly it just takes them down even lower, so I wouldn't be surprised if their suicide rate had increased in the last 10 years also.

Sad as it is I think you have a very good point here Kate. It's something that I've been arguing repeatedly with my daughter's boyfriend, but him being a Swede I always seem to loose. The pendulum may have swung too far.
