    Post Yes means Yes

California has passed a new law defining consensual sex, essentially it changes the law which could be described under the umbrella term "No means no" to Yes means Yes.

the law would require “affirmative, conscious, and voluntary agreement” by each party to engage in sexual activity.*

In addition to consenting up front, the bill requires affirmative consent to be “ongoing throughout the sexual activity,” meaning that sexual partners must agree to each step of a sexual encounter as it progresses and consent can be revoked at any time.

Is this a good idea? Could you see it implemented elsewhere, here?

As we always do in Ireland , let's see how they get on with it .: doc
Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before.
People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do .: doc

Can I have sex with you? OK, you sure? Yes, you are sure? Great! Now hold on while we both contact our lawyers and draw up the papers to sign, and we will be good to go.

The Yes means Yes policy is what any civilised person is already doing, but to try to codify it into law.............

Do they? I'm not sure many guys at the start of a sexual encounter look for fully expressed/vocalised consent or at different stages do so either. I think it's more of a 'it's yes until she says no' at which stage a civilised person recognises no means no.

That's great news and if one says no you can shoot the other with an ak47! Who's going to believe one or the other if things get out of hand? Maybe you'll have to record it all and play it back for judge Judy typical yanks!
