Possibly because you've got it backwards wolfie. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

“A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”. One of Aesop’s fables, meaning something you have secure hold of is worth more than twice as much of something you may have difficulty obtaining.

    However, Escort Ireland Fable,
When it comes to a stand,
    A push in a bush
Is worth two in the hand

Jocular C19 th British expression punning the expression: ' A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush ', stating the fact that an act of copulation is worth two acts of masturbation

Always loved 'slowly slowly catchy monkey' just for the unique phrasing.

Never liked 'there's no atheists in foxholes', always considered it pious ignorance.

the worth of boast worlds......as made famous by alan partridge

"No, no, no. I do mean the worth of boast worlds. i.e., in the world of boasters – not the biscuits - but people who boast, like you, their worth is worth… you know…"

edit: he meant the best of both worlds

Indeed, the language usually emanating from such foxholes is anything but religious.
