I agree. It is bound to happen at some stage on both sides but as long as there is good communication then there should not be an issue. It is not so much a matter of respect but good manners and a little understanding on both sides.

Yes, it goes both ways and if it's the first time, I think that a little understanding it's acceptable. I know some guys plan their visit well in advance, some might need to travel, some have only a determined amount of time to get away from their lives and I understand that it can be a little annoying if the appointment is cancelled. But better to get a text or a call than get to the landmark and get no answer at all.
True story: a few weeks ago I was waiting for my appointment ( confirmed also). It was heavily raining outside and my guest was supposed to arrive in about 15 min. All of a sudden, the ceiling cracked and the water started to come down so much that my bedroom was flooded by the time I got to put some towels, buckets( anything useful that I could find) on the floor. Of course, had to cancel my appointment due to unexpected problems. Was the guy a bit annoyed? Probably. But he did understood and we rearranged for some other day and it was a lovely appointment.
So, things do happen and they can change all your plans from one minute to another. Not fair to outline a single girl without giving her the benefit of doubt first ( even without mentioning names) and try to make her look unprofessional because she cancelled one appointment and she still goes on about respecting her clients and their appointments. Just like cls said.....both ways and a bit of understanding

I do totally understand that circumstances can change and bookings may have to be canceled. As you say, it goes both ways. Having said that, if I had to cancel I would inform the lady as soon as I realised I could not make the appointment so as to allow the lady to have as much time as possible to make other arrangements. However, in my case, not only was I not informed early, but the lady in question did not even answer her phone when I rang at the arranged time. I put this down at the time to the fact that she may be busy and was unable to take my call. But then for her to txt or get someone else to txt me (It was not her number)with no explanation other than "something came up" made me think slightly differently but I still thought she would contact me later and explain and possibly rearrange for some other time — she did not.

In your example where the rain came in through the ceiling you at least had made contact before that had happened. Then I am sure you contacted the guy with an explanation. I have seen the results of heavy rain coming through ceilings in apartments and it is more than a valid reason for canceling an appointment. You rearranged another appointment and it worked out fine. The lady who canceled on me never made contact after so I assume she does not want to see me which is her prerogative, I won't force the issue. If it was me who canceled I would do my level best to make up for my cancelation by trying to rearrange an appointment.

As for me singling out one lady without giving her the benefit of doubt first, well, I have only had one appointment canceled so I am unable to draw on a second experience and to be fair, I did give her the benefit of the doubt when it happened. I have not tried to make her look unprofessional. I have only said what happened, if that makes her look unprofessional then I'd say perhaps she should handle cancellations in the future differently.

ATEOTD cancellations will happen for many reasons — it is how we handle these cancellations that makes the difference

once...girl texted about 2 days before appointment to say she was feeling unwell and might have to cancel. She gave me the choice to either cancel then or see how she felt on the day. Come the day of the appt she txted to say she felt a lot better but she still wudn't be able to give 100% and could we cancel as she didn't want to disapoint me.

I thought the way she handled it was a so professional but also so personal and greatly appreciated it. However as always is the case I have missed her ever since then as either I was out of the country or in a relationship--but boy did i nearly cheat lol
