    Default Puzzle #9

On 6 September 1861 an officer at the Curragh barracks of the British Army met a 'wren'.

He met the 'wren' on two further occasions—"NC third time".

    Who was the officer?

The officer's mother blamed the officer for the death of her husband a few months later; who?

    What's a 'wren'?

This isn't a puzzle as such more a story of general interest about Edward V11 of England who as a young officer met Nellie Clifton who was a lady of easy virtue and the whole saga upset his father, Prince Albert, that he died shortly afterwards.

His wife Queen Victoria blamed Edward for the early demise of Albert and reportedly never forgave him.

Wrens, these ladies of questionable morals, were so called because they lived in makeshift houses that looked like Wren's nests.

    It is a good read.
