World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 30th July

There is a campaign being led to stop trafficking for the first ever UN World day.

Normally this is something I would support without question, but now knowing how confused the word 'trafficking' is and how it is often used as a weapon within the sex industry, even with regards to Independent Escorts working of their own free will. I'm not sure if it would be wise to add to their numbers.

I am assuming this is trafficking in every walk of life, although there is not a great deal of information.

Until there is a proper definition of the term 'trafficking', particularly in Ireland, it's very difficult to see how this can be given full support.

The term has been twisted out of all recognition by anti-sex work campaigners in a way which is grossly insulting to genuine victims.

There is a perfectly good definition of 'trafficking' already. It's just that it is deliberately being misconstrued for propaganda means to redefine it so that it becomes synonymous with independent sex work to demonise the industry.

Which is frustrating, as my gut reaction is to want to support a campaign like this, but not if it is going to be used as a statistic to later beat me over the head with.
