Happy Samhein to all Celts, mystics, and those who are those things but just don't realize it yet.

    A Scorpion's Dance
    By Dolly Darling C. 2008

A cold blue sky shines down on a man with coal black hair
Holding his carved pumpkin, he smiles and looks to the lake.
Trees gently blow and whistle through red and yellow leaves,
And blow him the memory of a song he heard three Octobers ago -
    A song of waterfall, harp, and beautiful women;
A song for October darkness and embracing morning light.

And his memory formed into a shape!
And this memory took his hand into hers.
Kissing his knuckles, the women of waterfall and harp song sang,
“Do you want to make love to me tonight or do you wish me away?”
“I want you to make love to me; to bring me to the waterfall;”
“I want to see the intensity in your eyes when you look at me.”

“I remember a Halloween night, when you danced with fireworks.
You looked so happy and ecstatic and I felt so much love for you.
I watched you dance, a scorpion under the full moon’s influence,
As you leapt over two firework fountains, mocking and teasing fire.
Two hurdles of sparkling pink, blue, red, green, and gold light...
You leapt and screamed and danced with Samhein delight!”

“And your eyes threw that light into the enchanted forest,
Enlightening the forest’s shadows and secrets of the night.
Your body, so shiny and illuminated – I had to touch you!
But your tail stung me with brilliant, colorful, ecstatic poison!
I fell to the ground with your deadly bolt of lightning –
Stung by your Scorpion tail, felled by your electric kiss.”

“You cast your spell on me three October moons ago,
We buried my heart under those red and yellow forest leaves…
But I am near you now, “Scorpio”, and I would make love to you,
With an intensity of one who has been hungry for far too long!
Now, feed me my king! Blow your breath of life in my mouth –
I would kiss you all night and wake the morning in your embrace.”

And so he set his pumpkin aside and touched the women’s ghost.
She felt of the wet silk on morning blades of grass,
She felt as the moss that grows up the Oak Tree’s limb,
She felt of the cold heat of a true love’s kiss,
He kissed her blushing cheek and whispered her fate -
“If you can’t have the one you love, then love the one you’re with.”
