The Irish Sun ran a story on that theme... Was front page, but it wasn't very interesting! I can post the article online later.

Howeya roryman , didn't hear it but i did read about it in sun . It was a small article and it talked about escorts reducing their prices due to the downfall in business and mentioned a couple of girls , sexy naomi and scottish lilly i think . It said that , and i hope i'm right here , that naomi has reduced her prices until the recession is over and that lilli is doin a 15 min quickie for 70 euro . It was the main headline on the front but it only got a quarter of a page if even that on page 5

I read Beano and Viz.They arent quite as funny but make way more sense.Since the reporters are looking here ,let me say one thing.More on your lines to report on real issues instead of small things to turn your paper into a form of Soft Porn for the general population.More on your line to blast the gov who are again helping fat cats get richer while the poor get poorer and besides how the hell can they (publishers) justify the cost of this rubbish? All pics like Roy of the Rovers or something.More reading on the package of jax rolls.
Its all a mind game.Mention sex on the front and the poor ole lads will buy it hoping to get something half decent to jerk off to.

    Deal with real issues plz,
    Westside.

    Default Wow !

That's the most lucid, intelligent post I have seen from you Westie. I agree with every word. The British tabloid media have managed to finally infiltrate our little island & it's to our shame that more copies of The "Irish" Sun are sold every day than The Irish Times. In the race to the bottom they lead the way. I used to think it was to our credit about 20 yrs ago that we had no appetite for this rubbish but we've embraced it wholeheartedly.
Does no one remember during our bleakest times in the north "The Sun" ran headlines such as "Murdering Irish Pigs" & pretty much fed the notion amongst the idiots who read it that we were a sub-human race (easy now Liz).
Anyone who buys this trash obviously isn't interested in the real world & furthermore anyone who subscribes to Sky TV is feeding Murdock's anti-Irish coffers. I've made a point never to give the fucker a penny.

Did you see what Posh said about David's underwear ?

'The Sun', in common with all British tabloids and our own home grown versions of them are nothing but voyeristic rags. Any half intelligent primary school pupil could make a better attempt at articulate and balanced journalism than some of these supposed graduates of journalism schools. The same applies to the Rupert Murdock empire and it's Irish clone, TV3.

The great irony, is that the same people who buy the tabloids for the 'bums and tits' and the footie, are probably also subscribers to Sky TV. This revenue enables Sky to monopolise many sporting events such as the Premiership, Heiniken Cup, Ryder Cup, Tour de France etc. and to charge extra for premium events (pay per view). Will Sky have to get their hands on the All-Ireland Championships or Formula 1, before people wake up?

Like you, TheNads, Murdock won't get a red cent out of me and thank God our license fee does'nt go to TV3.

    Default Price cut

The Celtic Tiger Buzz has gone, I'm not feeling the urge to spend on luxuries, escorts are luxuries to me, I can cope without them for now, Will price drop to €100 per half hour?

    Default Newspapers !!

Oh my god the rags are advertising escorts these days ffs how low much more lower can they go.

Unfortunatly the demand is there for this kind of rubbish and thats how they can justify making it headline front and centre.

The rag newspapers is like reading the crap you see in the cubicles of the jacks.

And what is Sentana doing now then?

Other than that I completely agree.
I prefer watching football with irish commentators as they give a less biased opinion
In fact they are revisiting the "crown jewels" as there was uproar at not being able to watch the euro qualifiers.

As a brit, I can only shake my head in utter disbelief at some of the crap we produce.
Unfortunately, you have taken some of our mistakes and made them your own - M50 (see M25), ill thought out souless shopping centres - Bluewater anybody?

But at least you have your own culture, and thats what I love about Ireland.
You are proud of your culture and you fiercely defend it.
Teaching Irish in schools, irish dancing, irish music, story telling, your cultral heritage of folklore, newgrange, horses, gaa, hurling etc, etc.
What is english culture? Cockney\northern slang, morris men, fish and chips and the sun?
The only good thing is that we have long been forced to embrace different cultures and races - something you are only starting to do now.

England has long been a divided country - Northerners and Southerners

Just remember, it is only a small minority who are sun readers, the rest of us are just trying to get along, when the real "enemy" are the grey men - the bankers and politicians who play with our lives, who say they act on our behalf but to who the power soon gets to their heads

The Sun is indeed a comic, but it is easier to hold when you are on the loo!

Don't have an answer to you Silo, but depending on the duration and severity of the recession, I can make a few guesses.

    1. Increase in the number of limited special offers and all-inclusive pricing.
(We are seeing some of this already, though special offers usually mean a reduction is service level and shorter times.)

    2. Touring escorts no longer traveling to Ireland as business drops off.

    3. If resident escorts don't experience increased business as a result of point 2., they will either leave also or reduce prices.

    4. Depending on how bad the recession is in other countries, we may see a new wave of escorts coming here from eastern and southern Europe and then we may see a real drop in prices.

For example in Romania, the normal hourly rate is about 100 Euro. In Portugal, escorting/prostitution works differently then here. The girls work in bars and the emphasis is purely on sex, no gfe etc. In general the fee is 50 Euro, of which 20 Euro goes to the house and the session finishes when the clients cums or after about 20 minutes, if he fails to come. So if a girl manages 3 clients in an hour, she pockets 90 Euro.

The escort business in Romania and probably to a lesser extent in Portugal is heavily dependant upon foreign businessmen and tourists. A serious reduction in business travel and tourism could mean, that if girls want to stay in this business, they have to go to where the clients are i.e. relocate or do more foreign travelling. Escorts always justify Irish rates because of the higher cost of living here, but with more and more empty apartments and hotel vacancies, expect some reductions in these overheads over the following months or years.

As I already said, there is no way of knowing where rates will end up, but prudent consumer behaviour and shopping around should help in pushing them in the right direction (from a punter viewpoint).
