I'm not a fan either Ric, I can assure you, but it has to be done or they’ll be a permanent danger, but its a painless 30 min procedure nowadays that is done while the Stallion is sedated but still conscious and on there feet in their own stable, and there running around within the hour, but I was told of one old skinflint years ago that would not pay for the vet to do this and used to do it himself with a vice grip like implement and no painkillers, he should never have been allowed to have Animals and have it done back to him.

If you think that’s gross, you should hear the nightmare situation I found myself in 10 years ago when a Mare got into severe difficulty foaling late into the night and in a remote area, the Foal was lodged half in and half out as it was the wrong way around and its legs were hopelessly lodged and died The Vet had no choice but dissect the Foal in half, in situ as the Mare was in severe distress. I had to help him, and I was not the better of it for a long time after, and almost put me of Horses altogether.thankfully that sit. is rare, but it does happen, the Mare survived but I did not put her in Foal ever again out of sympathy for the suffering she went through that night, it was horrendous.
