Default Open Irish Bank Account for Non-resident

Hi, I want to open an Irish Bank Account. But I heard itīs really a pain in the ass to get one if you are a none-resident. You need proof of adress with utility bill etc.
Now ok I know I can get a real adress by open a mail box at Mailbox Etc.
But is it true that all banks are asking for utility bills? Are there banks that will open an account for you hassle free? If so please provide me info which bank.
Are there non-resident girls with an Irish bank account and how do they manage to open one?
    Please advice, thanks,
    Jessie

It's hard enough to open an account even if you are Irish these days. They are government enforced criteria to combat people opening false accounts for the purpose of money laundering. No bank is going to let you open an account without this information or they'd be breaking the law.

I agree with WWLhad. I work in a bank and the key point is that it is now illegal for a bank to open an account for someone without certain pieces of documentation. For an Irish resident it's a photo ID ( passport, driving licence etc. ) and at least one utility bill less than 3 months old showing your name and home address.

If you are a non-resident many banks won't even let you in the front door. Those that do let you get that far are then likely to want twice the number of documents, for both Ireland and your country of residence. They are also likely to contact your bank in your country of residence for a reference.

It's a tough one and likely to take a long time, weeks. Alternatively you could try to offer the bank manager a 3 hour freebie to skip all the paperwork ) Though even that these days is unlikely to work ..... the penalty for the bank official who skips this paperwork is a few years in prison and a large fine ...... and that's only if the new customer turns out to be legitimate and doesn't do anything out of the way with their new account. The bank also gets a massive fine - I mean in the hundreds of thousands or even millions. These are the reasons why banks never skip the paperwork these days.

It's all geting crazy.Wherever you turn to any public, goverment organization you need to spend hours on paper work.I understand is for the safety resons but still, why people need to suffer because of that.I belive new technology supose to make our lifes easier .Instead of that milions of people need to prove their innocence and authenticity every day.But the worst is after all hard work done you don't have guarantee where your papers are gone.
Few days ago I have recived an advert from the comapny I never been interested in .It's strange how they knew my personal details. They should not have that!!I know resposible for that is 1 large UK company, I am just one of milions their customers. That is what dosn't let me feel safe those days.

Try and open a Post Office account; try bank of Scottland and if you're a UK resident,Allied Irish Bank have branches in England also in US-New York.

If you have a moble phone bill phone, that would be considered a Utility bill.

And get one of those pre-paid credit cards like 3V-log-on to 3V.ie and register. Handy if you need to get rid of CASH quickly. You can use the vouchers to make purchases over the internet. You can use different names and sigh up again and again when you reach your limit.

Honestly Bishop Brennan, that money was just resting in my account [Father Ted]

I thought all ye Escorts had offshore accounts, I pictured you jetting off on a private jet, and arriving at a bank in Switzerland in a limo with the Bank Manager falling over himself wrestling with your wheelbarrow of lolly.

But seriously, I bow to Banjos knowledge on this, but if you have an account in another country, given how mobile people are, and how they move so frequently from place to place, you would think that even with the tightening up of things, it would be a simple enough thing to do, its not against the law to move around and spend more then the normal holiday type time span in a country, but not be here working, You could be an artist renting a house for a few months, the bill would be addressed to the owner, where are you supposed to magic a utility bill out off, I had huge problems opening an account as the only utility bill I ever get is for electricity and the billing address was always in my Grandfathers name (ever since we got the lecky in fact, which was only in the late 60’s, takes us a while to catch on around here) I’m as Irish as you can get, but you would think I was a Colombian drug lord, the hoops I had to jump through, and that was with one of the staff knowing me all their life, so the mind beggars as to what happens in situations such as this.

I don’t know if the Credit Union would be an option for you, they did not ask me for a utility bill, and they offer a range of services, at least it would be a place to deposit rather then having it in your apartment, and they have far more of a social development outlook rather then purely hard cold finances. I'm sure they would be more helpful.
They may not do whatever banking services you require, but it might be worth inquiring into. Personally I go to the credit union before I’d ever darken the door of a bank…

No luck there either Quarterpounder. A friend of mine enquired about a credit union account a while back and had more or less the same results. Birth certs, Photo id,Letters from the cops, the works, even wanted the original copy of the ten commandments but Kat has those in her Suitcase!! Big Brother is watching you.

Jesus that’s taking things a bit far isn’t it, a letter from the Guards is a first for me, I mean that is them assuming that they were a criminal, you can’t do that. I had none of that from the CU. Although they are I presume under similar regulations to banks now, they are still far more helpful by miles, it may be well worth asking about anyway, but try a branch in a smaller town, as they can be more personable. Other then that I’m out of ideas, but I think Anita’s options are workable, if not ideal, but what is…

If all else fails, I'll launder it through my account....for a small commission...hey I have overheads to...

I don’t think Kat has the 10 commandments in the suitcase though, that would put her well over the 18kg mark, she may have a tin or two of whiskers though, 9 out of 10 pussy’s prefer whiskers, and she is pedigree fun after all…

    Default Credit Card!!

I know it's difficult to open an account but have you thaught about using your credit card, all companies allow you to prepay you credit card and give you good interest also, just go into the post office with your card and tell them you would like to lodge money onto it, from your card you can then transfer the money wherever you want via the internet. 3V prepay cards are an option but they have a limit of €350 so that's pritty restrictive.
    Just an option.
