    Default Fancy a jog?

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

The 'Turn off the Red Light' campaign says it wants to "end prostitution and sex trafficking in Ireland". It states: "Trafficking women and girls for the purposes of sexual exploitation is a modern, global form of slavery."
It is and I agree, but that only is the case when the women are trafficked not when they are freely choosing to escort.
As for modern day slavery, are they going to ban Nike Addias etc for their exploitation of Children in third world countries or do those comapanies pay tax to the government to look the other way

Good article. Thanks Queen Bee. It puts forward the views of "SWAI" very well and backs up the views with some evidence.

It is an unbiased short article so unfortunately, they equally put forward the views of the "Turn off the Red light " campaign.

It didn't realise SWAI existed. Fair play to Teresa Whittaker and co, they come across very eloquent with well thought out arguments. See excerpt below:

Teresa Whitaker, one of the founders of the SWAI, told the Sunday Independent that sex workers' views had not been sought. She said the introduction of the "Swedish" model would force prostitution further underground and create much more dangerous conditions for those voluntarily in the sex trade.
Last year, the supreme court in Canada overturned that country's laws on prostitution, which were almost identical to those in Britain and Ireland. The court found that laws which criminalised prostitution put the sex workers' lives at danger.
The "harm-reductionist" proposals being put forward by the SWAI would provide protections that are not in place in Britain, Ireland or Sweden.

The fact that the laws were changed in Canada (to liberalise the sex industry) in order to increase safety for sex workers is a strong point in our campaingn.

Hardly helps that the SWAI website is down. The number given is for a web hosting company in Galway. Let's hope that it is down for something like non payment & not because the provider has been pressurised.
