    Default NewTrafficking Helpline...

I read in today’s Examiner that the Government is to set up a free confidential helpline number to allow people to report suspected instances of people being trafficked, and for a pamphlet to be sent to every Garda Station in the country. It is a good idea and anything that helps is to be welcomed, but like most things it may be a double edged sword, does anyone have any thoughts on it, one way or the other, could there be a catch to it to for the Independent side of things.

I’m sorry I can’t find a link to the article for you, but I didn’t dream it, just read it now in the paper.

It's good that their setting up a trafficking helpline. Theres alot of it going on through the country and anything they can do to improve things all the better. Of all the escorts advertised here I doubt if their all independent. There would be a fair few of them trafficked girls been passed off as independent escorts. The problem is how would anyone know the difference unless they would tell a client. Whch would be unlikely. Then you would have the problem of troublemakers accusing independent escorts as been trafficked just to make life difficult for them.
Help Keyla in her fight with cancer. Every little helps.
It could happen to any of us.

I can't find the article online either, but on the face of it I am in favour. I really think it is time Ireland stepped up and did more about trafficking. There should be a helpline clients can ring in confidence. And of course proper support for trafficking victims. At the moment the support out there for trafficked girls is dire, they seem to generally end up in Mountjoy, and that just says it all.

    What is this "trafficking"?
There are "independents" advertising here, who, in reality, are "contract girls". It seems to me that they tend to work for more experienced escorts who organise apartments and answer the phones. You will often see comments to the effect that the escort actually encountered did not have the English of the person who answered the phone. These escorts tend to be girls with little knowlege of English or the country and this is the best way to get to "know the ropes". The girls have explained this to me- mostly in sign language - but I never asked what the "split" was. Girls tend to confide in me quite easily but I never got the impression that the couple of girls that I knew wanted out of the arrangement. It was more a case that they were looking forward to becoming truly independent, and retaining all the loot. Is this "trafficking" It does not seem to me that there is a victim.
I tend to go for the newer, less experienced girls- before it becomes too much of a routine- as they tend to be the most fun. I think, therefor, that I would be as likeky as any to come across "trafficked" girls but I have not. I do not wish to sound conceited but I doubt that a genuine "victim" could hide it from me but I may have just missed them.
I suppose the qoestion is what or where is the problem?
