Computer Virus

I am not sure if this is the correct section for this but here goes.

Today I logged onto 3 sites only this one, another irish similar and facebook. I was online for about 2 hours in total and when I intended to shut pc down was asked if I wish to accept my new homepage. For me this is usually set to goolge.ie so no I didnt. But I am now thinking about this and it concerns me if a site wishes to change my homepage and I see this as a virus.

I dont think this can be done as timed so it will happen later and cant imagine fb doing it so Im left with 2 sites this being 1. Can anyone shed light on this ?

Nothing to worry about , some sites will ask you if you want to change your homepage from time to time . Don't use Norton as your internet security and you'll be ok and run regular checks and delete your browsing history every few weeks . I started a thread up last yr and got good help , may or may not help ( just doing a scan now and there's malware detected on my pc whatever that means !) (and now a trojan too !)but here's the link anyway

There was times when I downloaded some software and a page related to that was set as my homepage, like if you download msn messenger msn becomes your homepage.

Like irl69 said in the linked post download and install Malwarebytes and run that should get rid of most threats on your system and then download and run AVG free , a free anti virus, the two of them have kept me virus free for ages and its the only antivirus i use now

Install and run the above application regularly in addition to what you already have on your system in the way of security software.

When you first set it up tick ALL the boxes on both the "Windows" and "Applications" tabs except for the "Wipe Free Space" option at the bottom of the "Windows" tab. The reason to leave the "Wipe Free Space" option unticked is to stop the application from performing a "Wipe" on the free space on your hard drive which could take a very long time if you have a large drive.

Be sure to check out the other options in CCleaner too.

This sound serious but at least with the TROJAN ure computer should be covered against std

I use avast anti virus, its free and very good, its a lot better than most of the anit virus that you pay for and it updates every time you switch on the computer

Use that for deep scans on really infected computers, as it installs, restarts the computer and then runs a scan before most services start in windows, although it annoyed me having to re register it every couple of months
