Default Hypnotism and all that Stuff

So I'm after watching Derren Brown's "Enigma" show that I had recorded on my Sky box. I've been to a couple of hypnotist shows in my life, but I've never been hypnotised myself (unless it's by a nice pair of booooooooooobiiiiiiieeeeeeess).

It seems to be pretty amazing how the hypnotist makes people fall asleep and wake up on command, and do crazy shit while entranced that they wouldn't do sober. Derren made a girl drink a glass of vinegar like it was water, and in the past I've seen people be hynotised into thinking they're animals etc; stuff you'd never do in front of strangers, even if you were game for a larf.

So - whaddya think, is it all real?

Mousey, you might not think that you were hypnotised, but you were. You're not really a mouse, you just think you are. You are in fact a rat !

There's a very big difference between stage hypnosis and clinical hypnosis/hypnotherapy.
Certainly, the basic premise is the same - induction into a trance etc, but the methods (and ethical considerations) are vastly different.
Plus, with stage hypnotism, there's also the *unknown quantity* of audience expectation, pressure to respond/perform within an "act" and so on.
Haven't a clue how Brown achieves what he does, though.

About eight years ago I went to a Clinical Hypnotist to get help in kicking a smoking habit(60 a day) as everything else had failed.
I thought I was not Hypnotised and was going to ask for my money back, and got up off the couch with the full intention of going across the street to a local shop to buy cigs. Now I do not know why but I never brought those cigs. and have not smoked since.

The thing about hypnotisim is the person has to be kind of in agreement with the action he will preform. You wont get anyone to do something they wont want to do, like rob a bank or kill some one, but theycan do foolish things if they are up for it anyway. You can be suggestable but you will still only do something if you want to or are ok withit

Apologies for the double post (for some reason couldn't edit my previous one) but the more and more I look at that image (i.e. magicman's spectrum of light) the more I'm convinced that this is what time travel would look like!

I'm not suuuuure. Derren Brown made this girl drink a glass of vinegar like it was water. Glug glug glug, just like that. I wouldn't do that for a laugh even if there was an entire theatre of people watching me.

I wonder does being hypnotised fuck up your brain chemistry at all? Strikes me that it can't be good for someone, being put into a trance for several minutes - even if they do say it's like sleep.
