What is the harm in having someone drive ahead of you when moving large farming machinery? Twice this summer and indeed most summers i go around corners and there is a huge machine in front of me with no prior warnings at all. Its just not the hell on. Its like drink driving.I know of ppl no longer with us over this crap.

Get someone to drive ahead for warnings or wait until someone is there.

Has nothing to do with anything being legal. Its the narrow corners on some roads in the country. Even legal machinary takes up all the road sometimes.

Not really because you cant make a road wider but you can give oncoming traffic a prior warning. Its the farmers fault 100%. If it went to a court the farmer would loose because he would be asked they he take all the measures he could have taken and of course he didnt if he hadnt any way of warning incoming traffic.

The only way a farmer might get off is excessive speed of the other vehicle or the other vehicle striking the farm machine on the opposite side of the road.

If the other road user was asked did he take every measure he could have taken he would probably have to say no too. Unless he got out of his car, walked around the corner to make sure there was nothing there...........

If someone crashes into a legally operated mechanically propelled vehicle driven by a farmer that is larger that a normal road going vehicle, the farmer is not automatically the one in the wrong, in fact, more often that not, the other driver can be charged with driving without due care and attention and in a manner not in keeping with the road conditions...........

If the machine has crossed the white line onto the other side of the road then the driver of the machine is in the wrong. If there are no markings on the road then if the vehicle has crossed the crown of the road then the same applies. This applies to all vehicles not just farm equipment. Mostly though down here in the sticks either an advance vehicle goes ahead or warning signs are placed where the road journey for the equipment is short

Crossed the white line??? On most small rural roads there is NO white line and even a car takes up the vast majority of the road. "crossed the white line"... lol.

West isn't exaggerating when he talks about the machinery taking up the whole of the road.... there are many roads near me where even and ordinary car takes up practically the whole road. If you meet a car coming against you, you have to back up, plain and simple.

I've often been behind very large machinery literally taking up the entire road for at least about a mile, even on fast rural roads you can go 50mph on (this machinery was going fast as well). If you meet someone, they would literally have to reverse all the way back.

It is illegal to drive or carry a load wider than 9ft-6in on any road including motorway without a vehicle in front with a sign reading wide load. you must also have an amber flashing light on the leading vehicle. That is E.U.regulations. Also most of these wide agri machinery are the responsibility of the agri contractors. For example contractor carrying slurry for farmers on the road if the road gets wet and a car skids and crashes it is the responsibility of the contractor end of story. If laws were implemented properly anything over 9ft-6in is supposed to have a police escort. I used to deliver wide loads for company i used to work for. One time i collected dished ends for tanks in U.K had to get police escort to hollyhead. Drove off boat in north wall Dublin and drove all of 140 mls south to base without any escort at all. Met plenty of corp cars and they did not even stot me.
