That people can't comment on a subject they have no knowledge of. Whatever is read, heard or seen should be taken as what it is: an opinion.
What we have to remember is that the general public who are in no way involved in the sex industry only have the facts that they're supplied with. Thus, Propaganda comes into play.
Definition of Propaganda:
"Propaganda is the deliberate, systematic attempt to shape perceptions, manipulate cognitions, and direct behavior to achieve a response that furthers the desired intent of the propagandist."
How are people supposed to know that most of us ladies made an informed decision when we took up our chosen careers? Especially when they're given facts such as:
"Very few women choose to willingly engage in prostitution. Most who are involved have had very few real choices"
This is taken from Turn Off the Red Light site, who have a lot to answer for. It seems to me that they can give whatever 'facts' they like. Their research is very specific, targeting street workers and ladies who have been trafficked. I base this on the fact that neither I, nor the any of the escorts I know have ever been asked to take part in any kind of official survey.
What the public see/hear are biased opinions of narrow minded idiots. We only have to look at Ruhamas Values to see that they're Hypocritical.
The values which inform Ruhama's work include:
* affirming every woman's right to society's protection and respect
* commitment to learning and to continual service improvement
I am a woman so shouldn't my right to protection and respect be considered too? I guess not as I don't fall into the category of street walking drug user who doesn't want to be doing my job.
Apologies for the long rant/post. Maybe submitting this thread to a Newspaper who has the balls to print it would challenge the limited views people have. I doubt that this would ever happen but we can always hope.
