No legislation should be passed without lobbyist figures being fully verified. This and so many other TORL 'facts' are simply fantasy stats with no basis in reality.
The numbers thrown around regarding sex work are often an insult to the intelligence. Latest example is the recent speech by the Pope (head of an organisation responsible for genuine human trafficking on a massive scale) quoting the 'example' of a Mexican teenage girl who was apparently made to service over 42000 men in a five year period. That works out at more than 23 men per day, every day for five years, clearly impossible yet accepted as fact and quoted in The Guardian amongst others.
Human trafficking has become a catch-all term for everything from genuine coercion to voluntary economic migration. As such it becomes a moral panic, obscuring the people who genuinely require help with the majority who don't. The only ones benefitting from the deliberate lies of TORL, Ruhama etc are the organisations themselves. This issue needs to be looked at realistically and without prejudice. In Britain this has already been done and the failed Swedish model rejected. Don't expect Ireland to demonstrate such common sense though.
Yes agree, but because the Escort world is so private, interest groups benefit from the opaqueness. That goes for the other side to Ruhuma. No clear picture??
