Scotland reject the Swedish Model

Apparently , MSPs actually took cognaissance of what women in prostitution wanted .

Who'd think that was a revolutionary approach ?

Very good to hear and let the fight for the right for consent continue!

Despite the usual cliched street worker pics accompanying these news items, this is a very welcome development and a third kick in the teeth for Rhoda Grant who can't seem to recognise when to give up.

Grant, Benson, Charlton and anyone with any basic knowledge of local sex work knows that most of the crap they're feeding the public is nonsense. And just to prove it, an undercover sex worker visited Ruhama recently to see how they 'help' sex workers in practical terms.

Seems that smell of bullshit surrounding the TORL campaign is even stronger than we thought.

Unfortunately, the whole madness is not about sex workers' rights, it's about punishing sex workers, criminalizing working class clients and of course, most importantly, the coupla pound for some prominent TORL groups!

Usually money has to be shown to have been spent according to the purpose for which it was given.

Much of Ruhama's focus is currently on 'raising awareness', such as the current pile of bollocks ''We don't buy it'' campaign. Therefore much of the admin costs can be justified with this type of crap which they themselves know is nonsense. Add to that a few back slapping junkets abroad and the cost of recruiting staff, many of whom are cynically unpaid (while the CEO trousers a small fortune).

The actual numbers genuinely seeking Ruhama's help are very small and as has been proved recently, those who do ask recieve little or no support. If however they can get the Swedish model introduced, their potential pool of 'rescue cases' is likely to increase, justifying further funding and increased influence as the 'saviours' of 'fallen women'.

The fact that the Irish public and in particular the Irish government are pandering to a nun-centric group with a very recent history of appalling abuse really does beggar belief. But then when we look at certain political parties continuing to gain electoral ground north and south despite appalling pasts, perhaps we can understand a little better. Apparently the past is a different country to many people.
