Common Law Wife / prenuptial agreement

I had lunch with a few friends from a solicitor’s office in Dublin.
They told me the law was changed quietly at the start of the year and now “Common law wife” law applies in Ireland.
Live with a girl for 5 years (2 years if children) and she is entitled to half your assets.

You no longer have to marry.

Further to that, how would a prenuptial agreement stand in court when it would now give a wife fewer rights than a common law wife?
Simply it wouldn’t

I am aware of such legislation, I did'nt think it was enacted yet.
3yrs (with no dependants) and there will be an opt out clause.
be careful who you believe-some lawyers are very devious people.

that could put the wind up as lot of guys, espeically guys wit land/farms!!
whats the legal position with prenups? i thought they werent worth the paper they written on in ireland

not really, if your in negative equity she wouold have to share that debt?!!!

As far as I know a prenuptial in this country is not a legally binding contract.

I don't think this legislation has been enacted yet - when it is, it will encompass 'Civil Partnerships' (including same sex relationships) so expect more media coverage ...
