could do without wise-ass jokes,
just looking for guidance what to do next,
guilty plea? bring a lawyer? where can i hide in a courtroom?

I would say definately hire a legal eagle. May be a technicality/loophole they can find. As for publicity - unavoidable I'd say unless you're very lucky. At least it's a big city and not some village so court reports won't be printed in local papers.

Could you claim that you were lost or did you discuss money? If so, pay the fine. They will have recorded the whole thing. Chalk it up to experience and ask for non disclosure when it goes to court under grounds of personal circumstances.
