Help!!/Advice please quickly!

Ok to cut to the chase, a week and a half ago i was on my break at work, i bought 2 cans of beer which i was going to drink after work, but i took half of one of the cans while i was on my break in the canteen and got caught by a manager. I was sent home and off work for the rest of the week, got a meeting with manager and owner 6 days later, i got sacked for it, i never had any warnings or anything like that and i was there for 9 months, (had 6 months probation as normal). Anyway he told me last friday when he sacked me that i would be paid whatever money i am owed etc. and that my P45 etc will be sent out in the post. I went to social welfare yesterday and got an appointment for today. I went there today, was asked why i got sacked, i told them exactly why, she said i might not be entitled to any money at all! That i might be disqualified from them completely. She said that i'd be waiting about 2 weeks to hear from them again, and said she needed to contact my employer about it to see if i was telling the truth etc which is normal i think, and he has 7 days to reply back, but i have a feeling that he wont reply to them, as we left on bad terms and i gave him a piece of my mind before i left. Also she said i cud go try my local health board officer and they might give me some money but chances are i might not get it there either, and plus a need my P45 to get money from them but which i am still waiting for.

Now i'm not doubting that what i did was wrong and stupid, i know it was, but can Social Welfare refuse to give me anything at all? And do u think i'd get anything from them at all for my dole or will they just not pay me a penny?

Doubt that SSA can not pay ya anything at all no matter what ya got the sack for, after all thats what they are there for, to pay people who have no wrk or any other income, go to citizens advice.

Seems a bit OTT to sack u. Hope u are still entitled to Social Welfare.

Not to sure about what way the social works but i always thought if you were sacked you got paid straight away and if you left you job by your own decision you had to wait six weeks.

That's the way it used to work.
Best thing to do is look up welfare.ie and see what info they give. In fairnes.it was an idiotic thing to do and it is cause for instant dismissal
but as long as you have paid your prsi you'l be alright. Plenty of people get fired and they still get the dole. Go to your community welfare office and see what they say

I think its alot tougher now to get the dole. They might see it that it was your fault you got sacked,ie making yourself unemployed in which case you might have to wait or not get any dole at all. Ring your local CAB for advice on your rights, entitlements etc.

ok heres wat 2 do.go to the dole office and sign on,then go to your relieving officer 4 your area and they have to giv you money while the dole sorts you out,if the dole refuse to pay tell them your not leaving the hatch until you speak to a supervisor and dont back down.if they say leave or we will call the police say go ahead and as soon as the police let me go ill be back again.you av to be firm here dude or you will get screwed by them.yes they have to pay you,you wer sacked and yes dey wer right 2 sack you but dont let the dole office pawn you off,my cousin is always gettin into shit with them and dey threatin him with the police and sometimes even call dem but he keeps coming back and den they pay him.my father held up the hatch one time also.it was so funny,dey closed da hatch in his face and opened another and he ran to dat one and told everyone he wasnt leaving,superviser came out and payed him..

I'm sure u will have to get a form signed by your employer for Social Welfare outlining Reasons for termination of employment before SWelfare pay u anything thats your big stumbling block I'm afraid Approach your employer ...

i really dont know the story there rod,but that was a bad move on your part(drinking at work!).but the S.welfare is a COMPLETE JOKE HERE!.ive worked/paid tax for 16 years,and recently i was out of work for 6months due to an accident.it took 2 fecking months to get anything outa them!! and id say its much worse now!! hope u get it sorted.
