Due to personal reasons I have not been on this site for quite a while. Now, due to (severe) things that happened recently, my current landlord would like me to leave 'as it's better to be with friends right now'.

Polite way of saying 'we want you to leave, rather today than tomorrow'.

Can they just do that?

Depends on the contract or lease i reckon. Generally they have to give notice.

Landlord cannot ask you to leave from one day to another. You should have notice time......did you sign rental agreement or its a private landlord and you never singed anything Robi??

this happened to friend once, and boy did they make the landlord's live a living hell; actually, she's forbidden from renting to anyone; there's more to the story, but she was trying to pull a fast one on the Eastern Health Board, or whomeverr doles out housing allowances:p BITCH

As far as I know they cant do that UNLESS you are in breach of your lease terms but even then notice etc has to be given again not 100% sure but you can ask for advice from the PRTB I reckon

But seriously as a landlord myself , its a pain in the tits to get someone evicted. Call his bluff and hit citizens advice. Them fuckers tell tenants way too much info lol
