Action needed to counteract groups wishing to criminalise clients of sex workers
If anyone has been following the news recently they would have noticed groups and people who have a desire to criminalise the clients of sex workers. This would be a retrograde step and it amounts to a bedroom police.
People trafficking is very wrong and should be got rid of. However not all sex workers are forced into the trade.
Many of these people who want this oppressive law to be brought in are motivated by feminism rather than by the problem of trafficking. They seem to have a problem with men having a good time.
Also they try to make out that all people who visit sex workers are sleazy characters which isn't the case. Many who make use of the service are those who need more confidence or have some sort of a disability which makes it difficult for them to go elsewhere.
A man who has sex with a prostitute who is there of her own will is as entitled not to have a criminal record as a man who buys a woman flowers or drinks and then has sex with her.
Retrograde Swedish/Norwegian style laws that amount to a bedroom police should be kept out of Ireland. People need to grow a pair of balls and reject such laws.
I don't know what the best approach would be in order to resist such groups. Other uses of this website might have some ideas. Maybe a Facebook campaign might be a good start.
Boycott certain things. Write letters into newspapers.
Other suggestions include writing letters into newspapers to complain about support for this law.
Also certain things can be boycotted. I for one do not intend to buy any Christy Moore albums because of his support for this law.
A member of Swedish group Abba gave funds to a party which supports this sort of thing so they would be worth boycotting as well.
Emails can be sent to TD's in addition. This would be a good time during an election.
The more people who act together the better.
