Published today the independent research into prostitution in NI.
Dr Susann Huschke hoped that it would be published today before the bill goes before the assembly on Monday. Fingers crossed it makes a difference.

Its the same law they are trying to introduce in the south too then or is it different.
If its introduced what will it mean, i dont fully understand it, will clients stop visiting and will most escorts leave Ireland as a result:confused:
It is broadly similar in both jurisdictions.
The simple answer is no and no. After 15 years of criminalisation, Sweden still has over 1000 sex workers in a country not much larger than Ireland. Clients are still very much active. Working conditions for sex workers have deteriorated considerably though and human trafficking is actually increasing. This law if introduced will solve nothing but it will ensure longterm funding for NGOs and make life more difficult for sex workers.
Had a quick scan through and I am happy that my contribution is there and is accurate. Susann was a very easy person to talk to and I would not hesitate to help her again if it makes the wider public get a more balanced view of the life of a sex worker in NI and Ireland as a whole.
indeed. i was in Stockholm and realized that this law didnt stopped guys to visit girls. in fact there i had more outcalls requests but and incalls was enough. people are more careful about the girl and location but still coming. and one swedish client told me that and after law was in place actually price increased . an hr is around 250 -300 euros as i remember
My apology , forgot to congratulate everyone who took part in the research.
Thank you to those who made time to speak to S and those who completed the online survey.
I thanks to the people from other websites who got involved.
No Change possible despite all the wind been blown about Sex Work in the 5 countries involved
Well it worked with drugs....
Its not like I could get most drugs to my door within the hour, since the banned them no way that could happen
At the moment clients take the risk of visiting an escort who doesn't have verified pictures and/or review system active.
Might be the girl in the pictures, might be not, others might had good experiences or not, no reviews, can't tell .... (under the Swedish model law) might get caught or not.
Maybe I am wrong ..
Yes but if this new law is introduced its the clients that will be targeted and punished I believe....
It would make it very difficult for some guys to visit who had a lot to lose if caught.
The law is an arse anyway and just making things worse for everyone.
Alot of my clients think its illegal anyway... prob add to the thrill
Where is police force in this country to police every escort? We do not have endless budgets and resources and priority will take
Alot of Garda see this pointless,
Its a lazy man cure to stop trafficking, chase clients not the traffickers the logic is outstanding,
This will give funding to NGOs who love spouting nonsense a few cases made example of most likely with a very young little English escort and in a few weeks business as usual. With the escort suffering the most
But we can add a few quid for our suffering
It pointless it dangerous its misguided but most of all foolish impractical law
Who to say what is payment? Is a 200e watch with receipt going be seen as payment few drinks?
Jesus Sweden can't even enforce it this is the country where if your racist you will loose your job,
However Sweden efforts to appease everyone is not really working well for them
Escort who are need now may even fall thru the cracks not reach out, avoid clinics
In the states they wont carry condoms avoid arrest...
Maybe I should stop hooking and as they say in Ireland marry well for myself
If the law is changed here witch is only a mater of time, where by the client is prosecuted and fined and maybe named and shamed in the local news paper when it goes to court. I think the business here is going to get very small. The big thing will be the name and shame if it goes that way.
This is true it will challenge all men are equal under the law..
I wonder how insulted victims of rape and sexual violence are reading that consenting women been paid is the same as what they went through, and got no justice or fought hard for it, its all such a huge joke
we have a shit load of actual social and financial problems. no time for sketchy problems.
Hey.. Im just thinking....
We have had for years TOLR arguing and TOBL defending.... up to now, mere hearsay propaganda and ridiculous statistics on behalf of TORL...
Now, for once..... ONCE... an independent body was contracted and actually DID DO a comprehensive study into the real side of prostitution, in Northern Ireland at least. A study that has shown, if not proven, what we all here know to be the REAL facts. Less than 1% coercion, majority doing this business of their free will, tiny minority thinking they need to be "saved"!!!!
I am sick and tired of outlandish, misinformed statistics of gloom and depravity regarding this industry. Susann did a great job in compiling this report... and she was far from showing bias for either camp in her method of questioning as far as I can remember. Surely it is now up to TORL to do their own "independent" study to prove this one wrong or indecisive.
I will await the results with baited breath...
Afraid to read,
Will do so later!!!!!!
one must understand in life it is irrelevant what the individual thinks. its what the majority think and i think the majority want to see an end to prostitution
Believe it or not honey, there are many counties with millions of people in them who really have better things to do in their lives then worry about what the hell joe blog thinks about them and what they get up too. And there are many counties also around the world with millions of people in them who really dont really give a sh*it about someone selling their time or sex, and their governments actually help these sex worker to not only stay safe but also have laws to protect them too.
Its about time Ireland woke up and moved on with the times for all their citizens and at least changed the laws so those working in this business are able to protect themselves instead of coming to see sex working then in the face of the media be so bloody holly!
Lady Von Teese
thats the futility of existence. nobody cares about anything in life. Can you remember the criminal that walked out of the four courts a month ago? No.....because we are too busy living our own lives....
my point is that to the escorts and the clients they will say that the swedish model is bad......but to those who are not escorts and not clients (majority) who have no interest in the sex work, you ask them how do they feel about prostitution as in make a vote. they would vote in favour of the swedish model. This in turn puts pressure on those making the rules.
i would actually say that it would be the female part of the majority that is putting pressure on the government. Ireland now with the high standard of living has more females than ever before in professional jobs and they dislike escorting/prostitutes. The professional man and woman have an ideal method of living and it involves marriage, work, family and a holiday in the sun once a year.
So if this bill becomes law making it illegal for men to pay for sex there will not be many men, especially married men willing to risk being arrested and named and shamed in court and the media, and what will the neighbours think!!! from the escorts point of view there is bound to be a downturn in their business so many girls may decide not to visit Northern Ireland,it will be intresting to see what happens next week.
public opinion matters highly when it comes to voting time. FG are giving a bonus to welfare recipients. its an election gimmick......its hard to determine public opinion but a good gauge is what the papers write about as in they only write what the people want to read. IMO if you gave the general public a choice they would prefer the swedish model.....
i remember the fury about the prostitutes in limerick city. now they were street prostitutes, but the public didnt like them.
this isnt my opinion. my opinion would be legalize it completely and tax it and better regulate in full view. im just trying to gauge how the public thinks....and i dont think they are as liberal as i am
http://cf.chucklesnetwork.com/items/...about-that.jpg
annabell im saying legalize it. legalize it, regulate it and tax it......
but i am trying to gauge how the general public feel about and IMO they are leaning towards criminalization.....this is the feeling i get
the thing is criminalization wont make it go away.....it will just go under the radar like probation.....where there is demand, supply will be found
I'll save a fortune in Coppers if it's illegal to pay for sex.
