Police have finally found a suspect in the case of the hate campaign targeting gays that saw homophobic stickers plastered throughout London's East End.

Authorities have released a CCTV image of a man that they believe is the culprit of the homophobic sticker campaign targeting gays that has been plastered throughout London's East End and around the areas of Poplar, Canary Wharf, Whitechapel and Brick Lane for the past two months.

The stickers, measuring 2 inches by 4 inches, feature the rainbow pattern with a line through it that declares the area a "gay free zone". This image is joined by the religious slogan, "Arise and warn and fear Allah. Verily Allah is severe in punishment", which has sparked suspicions against the East End's Muslim populations.

The British Transport Police have been continuously reviewing their CCTV footage and came across a man's image after a sticker was found at Bow Church DLR station. It is believed to have been placed at the station around 4pm on February 12.

Detective Constable Elaine Sexton, a member of the public protection unit, stated, "We are working together with the Metropolitan Police, and have been conducting local enquiries across east London in a bid to identify those responsible for these stickers.

"These stickers are offensive and we are keen to identify the man in the images as we believe he has information which may assist the investigation."

In the wake of the attacks, residents of the East End have retaliated against the attacks with positive messages instead of anger and fear.

When stickers are found, they are now either defaced with the word "love" or covered with posters that say "help yourself to love" accompanied by tear-off quotes expressing messages of love and tolerance by writers including poet Alice Walker, director Rikki Beadle-Blair, and Anne Frank.
