No, but we know that the DUP are just Neanderthals
Nope but anyone who thinks the north more tolerant than the south or open sexually are utterly kidding themselves
I've seen escorts here say the south more backward coz of the church
But sorry the north run by bigots always was
agree there annabel... Presbyterian churches take a dim view of LGBTs.
It is not that the North is particularly narrow-minded, but that it is run by a mixture of Presbyterian and Catholic bigots.
Even so, the vote passed by a narrow margin, but was blocked by the DUP (effectively the political wing of the Free Presbyterian Church) using a “Partition of Concern” , a mechanism designed to prevent sectarian and bigoted legislation, not, as it was used here, to facilitate it.
I'll find a priest and make him marry me and i'll change the law globally
Sorry but Northern Ireland is Europe's Middle East, nowhere else does religious division have such an impact on Politics or society.
I'd rather explain black history to some hick from Tipp than the separation of (all) church and state to someone from the North.
After a rather wonderful offline tour there I decided on a short holiday there rather than Spain or S.A.
Only to find, not only are rural folks in Tipperary quietly racist but tribalist! They don't even trust folks from Kerry, Waterford, or Carlow! Don't even get them started on Dubs....
There seems to be a role-reversal going on.
Now that the English are leaving us at the mercy of our own politicians, we seem to be moving back to the 1950's.
The south seems to be making progress towards a modern liberal society.
A cross-border survey commissioned by RTÉ and the BBC has found two-thirds of respondents were either fairly or very comfortable with a close member of their family marrying someone of the same sex.
So this is not just a case of the politicians exploiting prejudice to obtain votes but they are (and churchmen) actually driving and creating prejudice.

Ah now there's no need to be going all fancy with your links and facts, down with that sort of thing. As an old uncle of mine was fond of saying, never, never, never!!!!
Seriously though, how can same sex marriages harm anyone or any institution , any more than opposite sex marriages do, ( was going to put normal marriage, btu that ain't right). If two people want to be able to have their relationship recognised as a marriage and live in as much misery as the rest of society, then who are we, or who are the likes of the dup to stand in their way?
Just been to a gay wedding, it was a lovely day, the only people who missed out was Belfast hotels and bars as the happy couple brought nearly 250 people from Belfast across the border for the big day. a great party :)
Sad thing is when they go back across the border the DUP etc say they are not married!!
