Should Ched Evans Get Another Chance?

Convicted rapist and Sheffield United player, Ched Evans, has recently been released after a two year stretch in prison. Before his conviction, he seemed to have a very promising career ahead of him. The question is, should Evans be allowed to continue with his footballing career?

My initial reaction would be that everybody is entitled to a second chance. I would have a greater concern here with the sentence rather than if he should get a second chance. A 2 year jail term for any sexual offence is too lenient. For rape the sentence should be at least 10 years.

Not to mind Lee Hughes also spent time in the nick for a hit and run and he got a chance but because it is to do with sexual assault/rape clubs could be reluctant to give ched Evans another one

Short answer is NO.
He wasn't sent down for stealing Mars bars...................Unless conviction quashed the only proper justice he will receive (and deserves) is public retribution or humiliation and to be hit in his pocket.

Ched Evans was done for raping a girl and should never be a footballer again.

Mike Tyson was done for raping a girl and has movie roles and generally enjoys the celebrity treatment.

Bit of hypocrisy in peoples reactions to Ched Evans playing football again.

Imo if he is able to play on, he will be getting it tight from the fans not to mention clubs taking a gamble signing him with this on his record.

I think anyone who commits rape should not be allowed to continue in such a career as football. However this case bothers me. He was a 22 year old who had sex with a 19 year old who (it was claimed) was too drunk to consent. The family have posted on their website CCTV footage of the 'victim' arriving at the hotel and there is certainly no clear evidence that she was too drunk to make a conscious choice.
When you think of the furore over Oscar Pistorius (and I think murder is more serious than rape) and the fact that he might only serve 10 months in jail, then I think there is certainly some argument for suggesting that Evans has had a hard time.

Agreed, Some crimes are worse than others and that is what sentencing is about.

I don't see that it is fair to single out this young guy and prevent him doing what he does best. He has done his time and the stigma will follow him around regardless.

Not to mention that today footballers are "Superstars" and role models to children. How could anyone consider putting Ched Evans in the situation whereby he could possibly influence others, "that's OK son, you do what you want. Destroy someones life but sure you be back to normal after a couple of years" !! Don't fuckin think so...........

I am not sure that anyone's life here was destroyed. A drunk 22 year old had sex with a drunk 19 year old. There was never any suggestion that he forced her to have sex, just that she was too drunk to consciously consent (statutory rape). As such I think he has served his time and I don't think there is any justification for banning him from trying to ply his trade. Whether any club should employ him is another matter. Rapists (i.e. those who force people into sex when they don't want to) are stigmatised with 'sex offenders' tags. I think this situation is slightly different.
