Short for on the crying game I expect. Maybe they knew about you : D
Maybe they played games before the main event
Don’t know origin of “on the game”
But gobshite ;
Is usually regarded as “Irish English”
The first literary mention is from Hugh Leonard’s 1973 play “Da“: “Hey God, there’s an old gobshite at the tradesmen’s entrance.”
There is an earlier reported U.S. Navy use, meaning “enlisted seaman,” with this 1910 quote: “You can imagine all the feelin’s In a foolish ‘gobshite’s’ breast.”)
Probably, an expression used that the general public would not understand if they overhead it in a conversation.
“Booze” was used the same way in London, for drink, especially bootleg drink, but of course, everyone knows the expression now.
The British expressions: ' to be on the game / be in the game / go on the game 'and its American equivalent ' to be in the life ' are used by prostitutes to refer to their way of life. They may derive from the 19 th century term ' wench of the game ', a prostitute. See prostitution for synonyms.

we say he's game for a laugh etc, meaning 'up for it' ;)
This game is a money earner for women, and an expensive game for males
But both enjoy it.
Seems unfair.
