A part of our history, or a waste of money..........
Taking into account the amount of money the government waste, do you think the state should be making a bid for this flag???
Is it a part of our history???
Would it just be a waste of money???
Or would you be expecting the current owner to to be donating it to the state???

By the way, I'm not looking for this thread to decend into a republican debate etc., so lets not take it there.......
NO Its a captured flag A point of dishonour
I suppose from a historical antique perspective it maybe important.
If money is an issue we should just make a fake one and say we brought it and say the one in New York is a fake or something. Problem solved.
From a miliarty perspective.
Well the 1916 rising was a tactical defeat but a strategic victory if you consider the free state a victory.
As the tactical defeat the Irish should have destroyed the flag or hid it if it was in jeopardy of being captured by the Hun. Ovisously the IRA not being a fully regulated army in the conventinoal sense overlooked this detail on the day. If this is inteed the flag the IRA failed to destroy or hide it therefore as it was a defeat and it is a captured flag- Its A point of dishonour. It is now actually more part of the Huns history than Irelands. Its a dishonour that it still exists.
