The 16th annual event took place in Sonkajarvi, Finland today and husbands and wives have been giving it their all.
Competitors from 11 countries including Britain, Germany and Australia have been hauling their wives around an obstacle course in the annual wacky spouse race.

The couples run over grass, sand and asphalt as well as tackling water obstacles reaching depths of up to a metre.

The wives are carried in what is known as ‘Estonian style’, which looks like a bum deal for the women who are hauled upside down with legs around their husband’s shoulders.

The roots of these comical championships are thought to date back to the late 1800s when Finnish villagers would steal women and carry them away on their backs.

A team of four women showed the opposition a clean pair of heels by setting a world record for the fastest relay race in stilettos.

The Australian sports students – who called themselves the Pinkettes – completed the 80m (263ft) course in 1min 4sec, while wearing 7.5cm (3in) heels.

They beat 100 other women in the race in Sydney which raised money for breast cancer research.

Who needs the Winter Olympics when you've got topless tobogganing? 30 male and female competitors lined up on the slopes to compete for the ultimate winter sport prize in Feburary this year.

'It was very cold, and because of that some of those girls would definitely had a bit of an advantage in a photo finish,' said one perverted onlooker.
