Pat Hickey denied bail by a judge and transferred to Rio's Bangu prison.

Hickey is reported to be sharing a cell with Mallon, the other Irish guy arrested.

Good and I hope they will share one for a long time if they are found guilty .

The fact that he is well known and in the public eye means you would expect it would be in their interest to keep him safe. If it was a so called nobody even a westerner, they could easily be dumped into the general population of some of those hellhole prisons in S. America.

Pat Hickey to get his passport back and be allowed to leave Brasil, on health grounds, but will be expected to co-operate with future court proceedings and to lodge the equivalent of €400,000 bail. Has been detained in Brasil since August.
