Someone remarked the other day that humanity's journey into space looks great, if you read it backwards. First we went to the Moon, then we developed the space shuttle, then... nothing.

it's a pretty sad day to say the least, the shuttle is just an immense machine and not having it in action anymore is just plain wrong.

It's also pretty tragic that about 3,000 people are going to loose their jobs as a direct result of it being shelved.

Thank God I changed my mind about being an astronaut.

You would have thought it one career with a guaranteed future ! Sadly not.
