Limerick Brothel Raided

Hi, don't know if this is the correct section for posting this, but here goes. Heard on the news that there was a brothel raided in Limerick yesterday, the 29th September. Not too uncommon you might say, but the most worrying thing about it was that police arrested a 17 year old girl who was working as an escort. This is serious stuff, people. It's most probably happening in every town where there's a brothel/agency.

Well... According to the law the state doesnt seem to worry about that :
"It is legal to provide sexual services for money if the provider is aged 17 or over and it is legal for a customer to obtain sexual services for money from a person aged 17 or over, who is not mentally impaired. "
Morals are a different story offcourse !
I would be more worried about a goverment that makes such laws .

If the lady was arrested then it would have been because there was more than one lady present, making it a brothel or the lady was in breach of immigration law. If there is some worry that the lady is not working alone, then it would be safer to turn and leave.

I have decided to post a reply to this as it is such a serious matter, u are 100% wrong in what u say, if u are
caught having sexual relations with a person under 18 years of age for money it will be treated as engaging
in child prostitution. Even though the legal age for sex is 17, from an escorting perspective., any minor(u 18)
is consider a child under the law. In this country under law u cannot be considered an escort(prostitute)
unless u are at least 18 yrs old.
The information u gave out is very dangerous as it could give the impression that to pay someone for sex
under 18 is not a serious offence when u could end up charged with rape of a minor and that would be far
from funny

for renumeration with a person under 18 yrs its is considerd child prostitution and will be prosecuted as such

PS The age of sexual consent and the age at which u are considered a prostitute under law are totaly different issues

It is an absolute disgrace that such basic legal information should be displayed incorrectly on the legal section of the site
U can already see how one lady took this to be true because she read it here. How many more have done likewise?

Has this info been updated since 2006? Because according to Interpol child prostitution age is 17 years old for Ireland.

Thank you, Bet for posting a reply do this thread; Sorry, for taking a moral high ground, but what is a seventeen year old girl doing in this business? From experience at having been around girls as young as eightteen in this business, six months in this business, truly messes with their heads its like giving a young person Heroin as their first drug experience, you don't do it. I hope who was caught running this brothel will have charges thrown at them. I hope individual Garda as well as the whole station they came from fucks with this person do no end.

You are right, but a 17 year old needs to develop self-esteem and self-confidence the old fashion way-honest hard work-the ones I've seen start early in this business ended up as basic human filth;they had no redeeming quality about them.It was sad and suck.

If you changed the legal age to 21, you would be invading a persons civil liberties I think; I know at 17 I was thinking solely of school and keeping a job, but I didn't have the 'material' world, and all it's trimmings breathing down my back, either like young people do now. Yes and no . The law is suppose to draw borders and I believe that young people today need different borders than older generations needed ! Time and upbringing changed , a lot you and me used to learn at home , young people dont get to learn no more . Also the input changed , there are much lower moral limits than just one generation ago , its easier for them to jump over the "line" to fullfill all your material desiers . So yes I still think the age limit needs to change , cause a lot of the young people need strickter borders ! If they are not guided by parents , morals or society the law needs to jump in .

I'm kind of hesitating with you on this one because by 21 I had been living on my own for several years, and if I would have wanted to get into this business back then, i would have been mad at the 21 restriction. There's was a great German movie called 'Christine' about a German girl, I think she was 14, and if I remember correctly,it was a true story, that movie had a profound effect on me in that it made me careful in whose company I kept. No that is incorrect the age of consent is 17 , u may not get married until u are 18 except in certain cases where a court exemption order can be applied for. In the past parental consent was also required for marriages under 18 but this is no longer
the case. If u get married outside Ireland anywhere the age limit is lower u must still get a court exemption order here to have the
marriage legally recoginised in Ireland

I am coming to this thread a little late and don't know if I have anything new to add, but it did occur to me that for all the thrill of a young girl (i.e. over 18) that lots of guys get, what is the difference between 17 and 18?

This has made me think about my attitude and what is right and wrong.

For punters, subheads 3 and 4 are important. There is a defence of honest belief, but this belief has to be based on some reasonable grounds. Is a profile age reasonable grounds for believing a lady is over 18? I would say probably not.

For E-I, subhead 2 is interesting. My reading is that E-I would be liable for advertising a minor, unless they could show they had reasonable grounds to believe she was 18 or over.

I think E-I can never be really shure if a lady advertising is a minor or not , since there is no way to tell unless they see a photo-Id in any form ! The problem with that , how many ladies are willing to give out that information , in " fear " to be exposed to autorities or others ! Even if E-I changes the way off aplicating to advertise , it will only leed them to loose a lot of ladies who simply switch to other pages who dont take that matter seriouse . So nothing changed , unless the law about prostitution is changed and it needs to be changed by people who know this business !
And I dont believe thats going to happen ....
