Seriously who thinks it will?
the goverment are only using it as a scare tactic.that we cant live without Lisbon.I know alot of the opposition are probably for it too but seriously do we have confidence in an opposition who cant topple the current gov?do we have faith in a gov that hasnt being honest since it came to power?
I hope not,
Westside.
I think it was rejected by the Irish people as a sign of contemp or protest, I think most people don't even know what it's really about, they really don't care. Unfortunately business comes first to try and keep the country viable and I hope it goes through this time, this country is in the shits and anything that helps must be addressed. We just have to keep our heads down and try and fight this recession, we just don't need any setbacks, strikes and protests at this time can only do damage and run the bill up even higher, we just have to pull together and get on with it and take all that is dished out. So yes I will be voting for the Lisbon Treaty.
When is no not a no.
I hope it does not go through this time and believe that we are selling ourselves short with it. I still beleive the power of Europe is shifting to the heavy weights like France, Germany and we will be left begging for scrapps from their table. It is also believed that if a refenderum was required elsewhere the other smaller countries would also rejected it.
The Lisbon doc. is way too complicated to vote on in it current format. A friend who is in politics was telling me its the small print, the unhighlighted issues and changes that will never make it into the press that is escaping most of us and this is what we should be really worried about.
Does anyone really think that if we had said yes this recession would be less sever.
Its a no again for me.
Ithink it will be ratafied quiet easily with Ganley out of the picture and the fact that some doubts
have emerged about his finances and his motives and the fact that libertas imploded in the Eu
elections and another factor is the fact Sinn Fein is against it.They just oppose everything and
are very exposed in debate as they dont have any credible financial policy etc.The bottom
line is the average person just dosent trust them still
Does anyone really think that if we had said yes this recession would be less severe.[/QUOTE]
No i dont think the recession would be less severe as that was caused by mistakes made elsewhere
but i do believe that if we vote no it will take us much longer to climb out of it.The truth here is
that this is not so much about the content of the treaty but the fact that we must retain the
goodwill of the larger states ,we have punched above our weight for so long and we definitely
would lose that advantage if we vote no,dont for one minute think we will be allowed hold
back europe if we vote no some political way will be found to circumvent it, and we will have
lost our place amongst the elite and will slide into insignificance.
Remember we are just 4 million people
I think it was a no vote the last time because people either didn't understand it or felt we didn't need Europe, we were doing, in most peoples eyes, quite well on our own and didn't want to be sending any of our money into Europe, the feeling is different now, people feel that if we vote yes we will get help from Europe now when we need it, this is a short term view, but I think people will vote no out of contempt for the present government, just to get to them and show them the people still have a voice, all be it perhaps the wrong one.
I think last time Irish vote for the Lisbon treaty Irish thought they were untouchable, rich enought to survice without Europe, and do not need Europe to go further. But the recession is heating harder Ireland than most others European countries.
And shown to the Irish they will struggle without Europe. I really thing if Irish had voted Lisbon treaty earlier they would have more help, and be less in deep recession. It is true Germany, Uk, and France are dictating more than others European countries but what can you do about it ? not much really. I think this time Irish will vote in majority for the YES. Just my little opinion
i think it will go through this time.
for some reason i keep gettin this mental image of cowen banging his fist and saying "we'll keep doing this untill you get it right" like some school techer.
Have a look at a few escorts in Lisbon. :D It might make change your mind.
Complete list of Portugal escort agencies, Portugal independent escorts and hot Lisbon girls offering services
And shown to the Irish they will struggle without Europe
So what have Europe done for Ireland?Name some companies that have pulled out of Ireland due to the employment crisis? We cant do without Europe? Its looks like Europe cant do without us or more speicifically, cant do without our generous benefits.
Take escorting alone. Why are you all here?Because you can charge more thats why hence make more.
And Ireland cant do without Europe?Looks like the other way around if you ask me.
By the way our main trading partners have always being UK and US.
Sincerely,
Westside.
I am going to vote no to Lisbon again, for a variety of reasons. One of them, a bit down the list, is the "I am not going to vote yes just because you politician bastards say I have to" mentality, I admit that much.
But on a broader scope, I've voted No in every Euro-centric referendum since I was old enough to vote (just missed Maastricht, I'm afraid) because I absolutely positively do not want to live in a United States of Europe. Make no bones about it, that is where we are heading - treaty after treaty intended to solidify and marginally increase the powers of the European Parliament (a distant and largely unaccountable body - which one of you can name all your constituent MEPs without researching?) including the formation of the European Union as a diplomatic body, complete with armed battleforces, that takes military action in its name. It's like Orwell's "1984" - soon the northern hemisphere is going to be controlled by three huge power blocs all competing with each other.
I have nothing culturally in common with the people of any of the Baltic states, for example, so why are we all being encourage to think like we're all Europeans instead of Irish first? Europe is a hugely diverse continent, both culturally and nationally. How can they expect us all to think like we're all EU citzens when Europe has dozens of languages alone?
The EU was great when it was purely a trade organisation. Bring back the Economic Community and I'll vote for that.
There was a former Supreme court judge & an ex-MEP on the Vincent Browne show last week they said there was no change to the treaty this time round the judge said the government were using scare tactics with the talk of 'guarantees' if we vote yes - they're the experts I voted No last time I'll vote No AGAIN ,
the treaty will not be passed & will reflect the disorientation people have with this sham of a government cunts the lot of 'em.......
not long ago we had an emergency budget aimed at dealing with the economic downturn. The minister for Finance applied a series of budget measures which were a legal entity.Part of those measures was a reduction in ministers expenses which has yet to be finalised.the ppl have done their bit but we are waiting on the goverment ministers to do theirs.Yet these very same ppl say that we are making a good decision with a yes vote to Lisbon and we are expected to trust their judgement. We are expected to have faith in a goverment that took several attempts to just state the figures of our budget.I trust a latent sex starved homosexual with my arse first.
Thats not even counting bringing in even more foreigners to further drain our finances.Sinn Fein are against it?Who in their right mind could blame them.
the goverment have no credibilty,
Westside.
And of course another reason of course is becuase that idiot French president insists that we must vote again, basicly saying we have np right to say no. Wait till we are in Europe, what say will we have then, NONE. We will be fucked. We will end up being swept under the carpet while the Germans and French take control.
C'mon We only have our independence a relativly short while and we want to give it up to become a satalite state.
I bet it will
a Frenchman can control our rights as voters.
Our gov have nothing between their legs when it comes to Europe.Remember that guy who vandalised a car in the East somewhere years ago.I think it was Malayisa. He was an American and he was found guilty and sentecned to be lashed. There was uproar in America and the americans demanded the punishment to be withdrwn. They were told to fuck off.
Well thats pretty much what we need to do with Europe.
And the Irish are lovely ppl, yeah thats just to fuck us more,
Westside.
No it won't go through this time either. Why can't they accept that the people voted no twice before. Why should voters do the government a favour when their making so many cut backs. I can't see the farmers who had the reps scheme abolished, the carers with the cut on their hours and people on social welfare with cuts to come voting yes to this treaty. What's in it for all them?
well i think more people will vote yes, because of the shite the government are spewing
i personally will still vote no
why??
well if we were told exactly the facts of what lisbon is and what it will do,
we could all make a better judgement.will it leave us far behind in europe humm i dont know?
Even though I am probably one of the few ultra-pro Europeans here i.e. an adherant of Mikhail Gorbachov's vision of the common European homeland from the Atlantic to the Urals, and our Greco-Roman, Judeo-Christian, liberal social-market economic sytem, civilisation and values within a united European framework, I voted no on the last occasion just to stick it to Fianna Fail up the ass.
On this occasion, I am still undecided, but leaning towards a yes. However, I'm not too sure if it's going to make a blind bit of difference anymore. I firmly believe that Fianna Fail and their associates, the developers and bankers have f***ed the country to such an extent, that it now only remains for the self-serving me-fein public sector workers and their trade union leaders to finally milk the poor old cow, Caitlin Ni hUallachain dry. The government finds itself between a rock and a hard place......they have to introduce a number of severe budgets to keep the ECB and IMF on side and yet the cutbacks that are necessary will cause industrial upheaval, all the while the private sector will haemorrhage jobs and these wont be replaced, because who in their right minds would invest in a place which is grossly uncompetitive in terms of labour and transaction/ancillary costs, where the social partners are at war with one another, and which is run by complete incompetents.
At some stage in the not too distant future, this country is going to loose its economic independence, and at this point is will just be a question of who is going to call the shots from then on. Our political independence wont mean a whole lot either, more in name than reality and it's just a question of which wagon we attach our lame horse to. We could reapply to join the UK, but I think the crowd in Westminster have enough problems of their own and would be loath to take us back. The crowd across the pond might consider the 51st "Green State".....after all they took the Puerto Ricans under their wing, and we have an advantage over them.....we at least speak English. The final alternative is the EU. Whichever option is taken, we are going to be an inconsequential backwater with hugh problems to be dealth with. But given what the local gombeen gobshites have done to the state, the alternatives cant be any worse.
The final choice is emigration......we did it before. Then we wont have to clean up the mess....those nice Poles and other Eastern Europeans together with the Western and Southern Europeans can be relied upon to make a go of it eventually.....after all, they managed to rebuild Europe after WWII.
what if its a draw ?
The same as if it's lost, we get to have a replay again. It's like Dublin v Meath a decade or so ago.
Has anyone read the document its only about 300pages with 100s of references to changes to different articles of the european union. I think its nuts how can u expect someone to vote on something that covers so many different topics and all u get to vote is yes or no. And they dont accept no.
There are a few changes within it that I know about that I agree with but for most I think this treaty is way above most peoples head and that includes the Irish politicians. During the first vote I asked a local politian who was canvasing about some issues and apart from him saying I should vote yes he didnt know anything else about its content.
I feel we and that includes our leaders are being bullied into ratifying this treaty of lisbon. We are being told how to vote and that to me is not democratic. So if we are being told how to vote will we be later also told how to live.
Its still a big F***ing no from me and I dont care to be told what way I should vote by any politian..
That would be good - Now if we could just get a dust up in the dail it would be the perfect analogy

Crazy latins, eh, Carlos ?:D
if they had enough power to come along and have another referendum on Lisbon after it was rejected by the Irish ppl then they have enough power to come along and make amendments to those changes later if the treaty is passed.
I cant believe that these idiots are even comtemplating having a referendum with so much to be done on the domestic front.Once again we are pleasing Europe. We have got f'all from Europe only cheap labour coming in and displacing Irish jobs.
Westside.
And the odd €750,000,000 here and there..............
That it........ I finally figured out who West is......... sorry to expose you like this..........:D:D:D

We have been a part of the EU for nearly 40 years and received plenty of funding in that time.
We cannot always have it our own way and, even though I dont fully understand all aspects of the Lisbon Treaty, we should move on with it.
we received funding and we were growing at the fastest rate in the EU not long ago.Where did the money go?
Health? We have a bigger health crisis than ever now because we wont have as many corridors available for ppl to get treatment on trollies.
Transport? We have a very small road network and our rail and bus services would look good in London fifty years ago.
Education?Again we have a bigger education crisis than ever with more schools using old pre fabs.
Defence?Defending what or who?If we had a major cause of defence then i seem to have slept that period out.
I could go on and it all falls under the remarkable bracket of spending. What the Irish gov have done would be for all in the world ,me going into Cork city centre on a spending spree with 1 million and coming out at the end of the day with two pairs of rebok runners,a brest in a bun ,a diet coke and a pair of jeans.I spent money but where did the rest of it go.What the fuck did the Irish gov spend the money on.
unless it was put out of the country,
Westside.
Well it didn't go here but if we get further into Europe that's where some of it will be going when we become part of a centralised European force who will have to commit troops to a rapid reaction force to be dispatched at short notice to god knows where........
But most of the money that came from Europe towards defence goes towards UN missions. This is not open for debate, thousands of Irish troops have served overseas in dozens of missions all over the world in the name of peace, they are respected and regarded as amongst the best and most professional soldiers in the world. To date 86 have paid the ultimate price for their country and for peace all over the world. I'm not even going to go into domestic commitments but the respect that Irish peace keepers have achieved all over the world is something for every Irish person to be proud of....
No way.......I don't believe it..........................:D:D:D
The Irish Constitution will become invalid if the Treaty of Lisbon is voted yes and again we will be answerable to foreign power. We are being threatened by europe you just have to look at the fear in the yes campain of a no vote. I think this is all related to the Irish mind set, were like the children of Europe needing to be taken care off. This will destroy Ireland and send it to the trash heap. Ok so we are on the edge of Europe but why are we always waiting for handouts from other countries instead of being self sufficent. We will have to be self sufficant with peak oil as it will be enivitable. Just ask the farmars and fishermen local industry in Ireland is gone because of Europe and all the money who benifited from it yes the Politicians and their cronies not me for certain.
Let's all vote NO again. Now that we have been raped by the government and the banks and the country is virtually bankrupt, lets create more enemies in some of the few institutions can may be called on to come to our rescue. Oh yes, lets all join with the lemmings and jump over the cliffs. For f***'s sake wake up! The hole is already deep enough and we can stop digging. Our godforsaken government has no idea how to rescue the country - let's not completely burn our bridges. Our constitution and every other sacred cow will be worth f*** all when the country goes down the plug hole.
and this proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Europe is no good for us.
One of the best ways to deal with a jobs crisis and a recession is manipulation of interest rates.Lower interest rates and slash them.This will encourage borrowing and get the wheel spinning again but nope ,we cant do that either.The ECB (european central bank) now controls our interest rates.I think the word retarded should mean this from here on.In your dictionary;
retarded = give control of your money to someone else.
This is nuts, not just stupid, absolute nuts.
As far as im concerned the reason the politicians are so fond of Europe is there are little perks down the line for them in the EU.For them as politicians, not for us as people. My attitude is fuck Europe and if they dont like what we do fuck them more.We dont need them.We do need and need very badly the UK and the US.
Westside.
Intrest rates have never been lower than at present there is nowhere else
we would be lent money at anything approaching the rates we are getting it now .Most likely
nobody would lend us money fullstop if we werent linked to the euro.If we were a stand alone currencey now i dread to think what it would be worth when traded. we will never get cheaper
money than through our links with the ECB and thats a fact
Actually alot of our problems stems from the avaliability of cheap money
