Now Nina, please stop mincing your words and let us know exactly what you feel, LOL
It is censorship at its worst and is populism at it s worst too. People do not want to hear what the people affected have to say because it is not mainstream and everyone knows "escorts are just prostitutes deserving of our pity and are not real people, or people who have opinions or views."
Unfortunately the Irish media are not open to anything besides economics and politics, no journalist is brave enough to bring this issue properly into the light.
Ok will get probably beaten for my opinion but nevermind:
It is Google choice to accept or reject customers - the same choice girls can reject clients or Apple Store is rejecting certain apps.
I call it freedom - and I also don't have any problems with discrimination - not at all. I have the right to tip a pretty waitress more than I would most likely tip an uglier one. I discriminate here due to looks. I prefer women and not at all men - so I discriminate gender. If I have an interview with someone applying for a job in the department I discriminate as well due to skills/intelligence.
Nothing wrong with that and I hate political correctness. If I run a business I discriminate as I want - my problem and no one should interfere. Sure discrimination could mean I lose business/money or have higher costs - but thats my own choice and my freedom to do as I please - nobody should force someone else to do a business transaction. It is the same right a girl has when she refuses a customers because of xyz.
In the end everyone discriminates daily. It is only "wrong" if others do it....
Is it wrong of me that I'd like to see these wankers thrown into a tank of sharks and eaten alive? Don't they even grasp the concepts of understanding and compromise?? Are they even human??? I'm very much tempted to say no to all those questions...
Your point is partially correct, we do all discriminate, the issue is when that discrimination hurts or infringes on anothers rights. In this case google discrimination is continuing to pursue one agenda to the detriment of the other. The discrimination you highlight is personal choice and doesn't really hurt anyone, except the ugly waitress that you didn't tip as much, and in that case the tip should be for the service not the looks, but thats just my opinion, lol
It just goes to show how well funded, politically backed and vindictive the TORL campaign is. I have looked at their website and it is worrying to see the number of organisations and politicians that they have duped into backing their cause. It is impressive to say the least. We are really up against it. My only hope is that with the economy being in the state it is - that the general public will have other things to worry about.
Unfortuantely Ruhamma is govenrment/EU funded as far as I know and have nothing better to do than to push their self proclaimed moral agenda.
But it is really bad form for Google to show deference to them!
Surely Ruhama can have separate google search instead of sticking their nose in TOBLS. I know what you are saying that this is war of the wits; a simple tactic to discredit what TOBL is really all about by associating the name of TOBL with Ruhama in an underhand way. This is unfair cos they are two separate organizations.
I think this make them look foolish.
Yep that is indeed a bit strange. But the same behavior happens all the time in business life - you are searching at google for a certain product - but find instead the product of a competitor...
Or you have even comparative advertisment (E.g.Cola vs Pepsi)
And no one claimed life is fair.
P.S.: Someone might perhaps want to check if copyright or something similiar might be infringed if name of organisation "xy" is used as a keyword or so by organisation "ab". As far as I understand this is a grey area
Interesting observation indeed, and seeming to contradict your earlier defence of "thats business, suck it up" but I can see the nuanced difference. My only observation is, because it is common doesn't make it right, and that is what i was essentially saying. I do not like discrimination in any form, even in tipping watiresses!!!
Even business has some rules (I believe in patents in copyrights ;) ) - but Google has every right to chose its customers as a girl has the same right to chose her clients.
And who defines what is right or wrong? What for you is right is for others wrong and vice versa - there might be situations where both are right - other situations where only one person can be right.
And I don't believe you don't discriminate - most likely you chose an escort because she is more attractive than escort b - that is discrimination...
I admit I discriminate - others don't admit it but that doesn't mean they don't do it as well.
With all due respect, I think you are confusing choice with discrimination. I choose and try not to discriminate. I am not perfect and I no doubt discriminate unwittingly.
Your question of defining right and wrong is good question, in general society defines, but like you I don't always agree with society. I admire your honesty, but rather than pat your back I would rather encourage you to try not to disciminate.
OK Google "choose" not to accept the advertisement - better? :p
See no discrimination happened ;)
Choice can be "discrimination" - Point.
Using an euphemism doesn't change it.
I give a s*** on political correctness and will continue to exercise my right to discriminate ehm I mean "choose".
Look all this about TOBL only way your going to make it heard is if ya hit the streets in 100's, clients and escorts.
only way to get through to the people of ireland that this isnt going to go away, and that if they are gona bring this law in, then they are going to have to prosecute 100's.
But i bet not many would hav the balls to do anything bout it so no point moaning, if the law is brought in.
Right the voting for spokes person, starts tomarrow :p
