General chat is for that, most people discuss sport as part of their normal interaction, so I don't see why here should be different.
Besides, you could argue that movies and music should have their own sections as well as there are just as many threads about them, everybody will want threads that they are not interested in shoved into seperate sections.
My opinion anyway.
